shall spread and shall take hold of the whole world (a), for so hath God promised to Abraham our father. 6 And that which giveth me consolation is that his faith shall have no end, but shall be kept inviolate by God (b)( [1] ) .’
7 The priest answered: ‘After the coming of the messenger of God shall other prophets come?’
8 Jesus answered: ‘There shall not come after him true prophets sent by God (c), 9 but there shall come a great number of false prophets, whereat I sorrow ( [2] ). 10 For Satan shall raise them up by the just judgement of God ( d), and they shall hide themselves under the pretext of my gospel.’
11 Herod answered: ‘How is it a just judgement of God that such impious men should come?’
12 Jesus answered: ‘It is just that he who will not believe in the truth to his salvation should believe in a lie to his damnation ( [3] ). Wherefore I say unto you (e), that the world hath ever despised the true prophets and loved the false, as can be seen in the time of Michaiah and Jeremiah( [4] ). For every like loveth his like(f).’
13 Then said the priest: ‘How shall the Messiah be called, and

ويعم العالم بأسره (ا) لأنه هكذا وعد الله أبانا إبراهيم 6 وأن ما يعزيني هو أن لا نهاية لدينه لأن الله سيحفظه صحيحا (ب)( [5] ) 7 أجاب الكاهن : أيأتي رسل آخرون بعد مجيء رسول الله ؟ 8 فأجاب يسوع لا يأتي بعده أنبياء صادقون مرسلون من الله (ج) 9 ولكن يأتي عدد غفير من الأنبياء الكذبة وهو ما يحزنني ( [6] )10 لأن الشيطان سيثيرهم بحكم الله العادل (د) فيتسترون بدعوى إنجيلي 11 أجاب هيرودس : كيف إن مجيء هؤلاء الكافرين يكون بحكم الله العادل ؟ 12 أجاب يسوع : من العدل أن من لا يؤمن بالحق لخلاصه يؤمن بالكذب للعنته( [7] ) لذلك أقول لكم ( هـ ) أن العالم كان يمتهن الأنبياء الصادقين دائما وأحب الكاذبين كما يشاهد في أيام ميشع وأرميا ( [8] ) لأن الشبيه يحب شبيهه (و) 13 فقال حينئذ الكاهن : ماذا يسمى مسيا
