1 Jesus, having withdrawn into a hollow part of the desert in Tiro ( [1] )near to Jordan, called together the seventy-two with the twelve, 2 and, when he had seated himself upon a stone, made them to sit near him. And he opened his mouth with a sigh and said: ‘This day have we seen a great wickedness in Judaea and in Israel, and such an one that my heart yet trembleth within my breast for fear of God. 3 Verily I say unto you, that God is jealous for his honour, and loveth Israel as lover (b). 4 Ye know that when a youth loveth a lady, and she love not him, but another, he is moved to indignation and slayeth his rival. 5 Even so, I tell you, doth god: 6 for, when Israel hath loved anything by reason whereof he forgetteth God ( [2] ), God hath brought such thing to nought (c). Now what thing is more dear to God here on earth than the priesthood and the holy temple? 8 Nevertheless, in the time of Jeremiah the prophet, when the people had forgotten God, and boasted only of the temple ( [3] ), for that there was none like it in all the world, God raised up his wrath by Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, and with

الفصل التاسع والتسعون (ا)
1 ولما خلا يسوع بكهف في البرية في تيرو ( [4] ) على مقربة من الأردن دعا الاثنين والسبعين مع الإثنا عشر 2 وبعد أن جلس على حجر أجلسهم بجانبه وفتح فاه متنفسا الصعداء وقال : لقد رأينا اليوم إثما عظيما في اليهودية وفي إسرائيل وهو إثم يخفق له قلبي في صدري من خشية الله 3 الحق أقول لكم أن الله غيور على كرامته ويحب إسرائيل كعاشق (ب) 4 وأنتم تعلمون أنه متى كلف شاب بامرأة لا تحبه بل تحب آخر ثار حنقه وقتل نده 5 إني أقول لكم هكذا يفعل الله 6 لأنه عندما أحب إسرائيل شيئا بسببه نسى الله ( [5] )أبطل الله ذلك الشيء (ج) 7 أي شيء أحب إلى الله هنا من الكهنوت والهيكل المقدس ؟ 8 ومع هذا لما نسى الشعب الله في زمن إرميا النبي وفاخروا بالهيكل فقط ( [6] ) إذ لم يكن له نظير في العالم كله أثار الله غضبه بواسطة نبوخذ نصر ملك بابل
