10 Then said Jesus: ‘ As God liveth (a), in whose presence my soul standeth, the universe before God is small as a grain of sand (b)( [2] ), 11 and God is as many times greater ( [3] )[than it] as it would take grains of sand to fill all the heavens and paradise, and more. 12 Now consider ye if God hath any proportion with man, who is a little piece of clay that standeth upon the earth. 13 Beware, then, that ye take the sense and not the bare words, if ye wish to have eternal life.’

14 The disciples answered: ‘God alone can know himself ( [4] ), and truly it is as said Isaiah the prophet:( [5] ) “He is hidden (c) from human senses.”’

15 Jesus answered: ‘So is it true; wherefore, when we are in paradise we shall know God, ( [6] ) as here one knoweth the sea from a drop of salt water.’

16 Returning to my discourse, I tell you that for sin alone one ought to weep, because by sinning man forsaketh his Creator (d). 17 but how shall he weep

بل كحبة رمل ( [7] ) أليست هذه العظمة مما لا يقاس ؟ 9 فأجاب التلاميذ : بلى بلى 10 حينئذ قال يسوع : لعمر الله (ا) الذي تقف نفسي في حضرته أن الكون أمام الله لصغير كحبة رمل (ب)( [8] ) 11 والله أعظم ( [9] ) من ذلك بمقدار ما يلزم من حبوب الرمل لملء كل السموات والجنة بل أكثر 12 فانظروا الآن إذا كان هناك نسبة بين الله والإنسان الذي ليس سوى كتلة صغيرة من طين واقفة على الأرض 13 فانتبهوا إذا لتأخذوا المعنى لا مجرد الكلام إذا أردتم أن تنالوا الحياة الأبدية 14 فأجاب التلاميذ : إن الله وحده يقدر أن يعرف نفسه ( [10] ) وأنه حقا كما قال إشعيا النبي ( [11] ) : " هو محتجب (ج) عن الحواس البشرية " 15 أجاب يسوع : إن هذا لهو الحق لذلك سنعرف الله متى صرنا في الجنة ( [12] )كما يعرف هنا البحر من قطرة ماء مالح 16 وإني أعود إلى حديثي فأقول لكم أنه يجب على الإنسان أن يبكي على الخطيئة فقط لأنه بالخطيئة يترك الإنسان خالقه (د) 17 ولكن كيف يبكي
