is received; 8 let him put before it the delights of paradise, that are so great that a grain of one of the delights of paradise is greater than all those of the world ( [1] ).
9 For so will it easily be quieted; 10 for that it is better to be content with little in order to receive much, than to be unbridled in little and be deprived of all and abide in torment.
11 ‘ Ye ought to remember the rich ( [2] ) feaster in order to fast well. 12 For he, wishing here on earth to fare deliciously every day, was deprived eternally of a single drop of water: while Lazarus, being content with crumbs here on earth, shall live eternally in full abundance of the delights of paradise.
13 But let the penitent be cautious; 14 for that Satan seeketh to annul every good work, and more in the penitent than in others, for that the penitent hath rebelled against him, and from being his faithful slave hath turned into a rebellious foe. 16 Whereupon Satan will seek to cause that he shall not fast in any wise, under pretext of sickness, and when this shall not avail he will invite him

غير متناه 8 ليضع قبالته ( مقابله ) مسرات الجنة التي هي عظيمة بحيث أن حبه من ملاذ الجنة لأعظم من ملاذ العالم بأسرها ( [3] ) 9 فبهذا يسهل تسكينه 10 لأن القناعة بالقليل لنيل الكثير لخير من إطلاق العنان في القليل مع الحرمان من كل شيء والمقام في العذاب 11 وعليكم أن تذكروا الغني ( [4] ) صاحب الولائم لكي تصوموا جيدا 12 لأنه لما أراد هنا على الأرض أن يتنعم كل يوم حرم إلى الأبد من قطرة واحدة من الماء بينا أن لعازر إذ قنع بالفتات هنا على الأرض سيعيش إلى الأبد في بحبوحة من ملاذ الجنة 13 ولكن ليكن التائب متيقظا 14 لأن الشيطان يحاول أن يبطل كل عمل صالح ويخص عمل التائب أكثر من سواه 15 لأن التائب قد عصاه وانقلب عليه عدوا عنيدا بعد أن كان عبدا أمينا 16 فلذلك يحاول الشيطان أن يحمله على عدم الصوم في حال من الأحوال بشبهة المرض فإذا لم يغن هذا أغراه
