1 When the disciples were come they brought pine-cones, and by the will of God they found a good quantity of dates. 2 So after the midday prayer they ate with Jesus. 3 Whereupon the apostles and disciples, seeing him that writheth of sad countenance, feared that Jesus needs must quickly depart from the world. 4 Whereupon Jesus consoled them, saying: ‘Fear not, for my hour is not yet come that I should depart from you. I shall abide with you still for a little while ( [1] ). 5 Therefore must I teach you now, in order that ye may go, as I have said, through all Israel to preach penitence; in order that God may have mercy (b) upon the sin of Israel. 6 Let every one therefore beware of sloth, and much more he that doeth penance; 7 because every tree that beareth not good fruit shall be cut down and cast into the fire( [2] ).’
8 There was a citizen who had a vineyard ( [3] ), and in the midst thereof had a garden, which had a fine fig-tree; 9 whereon for three years when the owner came he found no fruit, and seeing every other

الفصل الثالث عشر بعد المائة (ا)
1 ولما جاء التلاميذ أحضروا حق صنوبر ووجدوا بإذن الله مقدارا ليس بقليل من الرطب 2 وبعد صلاة الظهر أكلوا مع يسوع 3 فلما رأى من ثم الرسل والتلاميذ من يكتب كالح الوجه خشوا أن يكون قد وجب على يسوع الانصراف من العالم سريعا 4 فعزّاهم من ثَم يسوع قائلا : لا تخافوا لأن ساعتي لم تحن حتى الآن لكي انصرف عنكم فسأمكث معكم زمنا ( [4] ) يسيرا بعد 5 فلذلك يجب أن أعلمكم الآن كما قد قلت وسط كل بني إسرائيل لتبشروا بالتوبة ليرحم الله (ب) خطيئة إسرائيل 6 وليحذر كل أحد الكسل وخصوصا من يستعمل العقوبة البدنية 7 لأن كل شجرة لا تثمر ثمرا صالحا تقطع وتلقى في النار ( [5] ) 8 وكان لأحد الأهالي كرم ( [6] ) في وسطه بستان فيه شجرة تين 9 ولما لم يجد فيها صاحبها ثمرا عندما كان يجيء مدة ثلاث سنين ولما كان يرى أن كل شجرة أخرى
