3 And he will have to render an account thereof in that dreadful day. 4 The abominable lust, that maketh man like the brute beasts, ought greatly to be feared; 5 for the enemy is of one’s own household, so that it is not possible to go into any place whither thine enemy may not come. 6 Ah, how many have perished through lust! 7 (a) Through lust came the deluge, insomuch that the world perished before the mercy of God and so that there were saved only Noah and eighty-three human persons ( [1] ).

8 For lust the God overwhelmed three wicked cities whence escaped only Lot and his two children ( [2] ).

9 ‘ For lust the tribe of Benjamin was all but extinguished ( [3] ). 10 And I tell you verily that if I should narrate to you how many have perished through lust, the apace of five days would not suffice.’

12 Jesus answered:(b) ‘Lust is an unbridled desire of love, which, not being directed by reason, bursts the bounds of man’s intellect and affections; 13 so that the man, not knowing himself, loveth that which he ought to hate ( [4] ).

3 وعليه أن يقدم حسابا له في ذلك اليوم الرهيب 4 ويجب أن يخشى كثيرا من الشهوة الممقوتة التي تصير الإنسان شبيها بالحيوانات غير الناطقة 5 لأن عدو المرء من أهل بيته حتى إنه لا يمكن الذهاب إلى محل ما لا يطرقه العدو 6 وما أكثر الذين هلكوا بسبب الشهوة (ا) 7 فبسبب الشهوة أتى الطوفان حتى إن العالم هلك أمام رحمة الله ولم ينج إلا نوح وثلاثة وثمانون شخصا بشريا فقط ( [5] ) 8 وبسبب الشهوة أهلك الله ثلاث مدن شريرة لم ينج منها سوى لوط وولديه ( [6] ) 9 بسبب الشهوة كاد سبط بنيامين يفنى ( [7] )10 وإني أقول لكم الحق إني لو عددت لكم الذين هلكوا بسبب الشهوة لما كفتني مدة خمسة أيام 11 أجاب يعقوب : يا سيد ما معنى الشهوة ؟ 12 فأجاب يسوع : (ب) إن الشهوة هي عشق غير مكبوح الجماح إذا لم يرشده العقل تجاوز حدود البصيرة والعواطف 13 حتى إن الإنسان لما لم يكن يعرف نفسه أحب ما يجب عليه بغضه ( [8] )
