sinned in speaking with thee; for if I had seen thee I should not have sinned.”
3 Elijah answered: “May our God pardon thee, O brother, 4 because as regardeth me I know that thou hast told me the truth, 5 seeing that the more I hate myself the more I love God, 6 and if thou sawest me thou wouldst still thy desire, which is not pleasing to God. 7 for Elijah is not your creator, but God (a)’, 8 ‘whence, so far as concerneth thee, I am the devil,” Said Elijah weeping, “because I turn thee aside from thy creator ( [1] ) . 9 Weep then, O brother, because thou hast not that light which would make thee see the true from the false, for if thou hadst had that thou wouldst not have despised my doctrine. 10 Wherefore I say unto thee, that many desire to see me and come from far to see me, who despise my words. 11 Wherefore it were better for them, for their salvation, that they had no eyes, 12 seeing that everyone that findeth pleasure in the creature, be he who he may, and seeketh not to find pleasure in God, hath made an idol In his heart, and forsaken God ( [2] ).”’
13 Then said Jesus, sighing: ‘Have ye understood all that Elijah said?’
14 The disciples answered:

قد أخطأت إليك في الكلام وإني لو أبصرتك لما كنت أخطأت" 3 فأجاب إيليا : " ليغفر لك إلهنا أيها الأخ 4 لأني أعلم أنك فيما يخصني قد قلت الصدق 5 لأني كلما ازددت بغضا لنفسي ازددت محبة لله 6 ولو رأيتني لخمدت رغبتك التي ليست مرضية لله 7 لأن إيليا ليس هو خالقك بل الله (ا)" 8 ثم قال إيليا باكيا " إني أنا الشيطان فيما يختص بك لأني أحوِّلك عن خالقك ( [3] ) 9 فابك أيها الأخ إذ لم يكن لك نور يريك الحق من الباطل لأنه لو كان لك ذلك لما احتقرت تعليمي 10 لذلك أقول لك إن كثيرين يتمنون أن يروني ويأتون من بعيد ليروني وهم يحتقرون كلامي 11 لذلك كان خيرا لهم لخلاصهم أن لا يكون لهم عيون 12 لأن كل من يجد لذة في المخلوق أيا كان ولا يطلب أن يجد لذة في الله قد صنع صنما في قلبه وترك الله ( [4] )" 13 ثم قال يسوع متنهدا : أفهمتم كل ما قاله ايليا ؟ 14 أجاب التلاميذ :
