it is necessary to talk. 17 And just as no one spendeth gold on a thing which shall cause hurt to his body, so let him not talk of a thing that may cause hurt to his soul.
1() ‘When the governor hath arrested a prisoner whom he examineth while the notary writeth down [the case], tell me, how doth such a man talk?’
2 The disciples answered: ‘He talketh with fear and to the point,so as not to give suspicion of himself, and he is careful not to say anything that may displease the governor, but seeketh to speak somewhat whereby he may be set free.’
3 Then answered Jesus: ‘This ought the penitent to do then, in order not to lose his soul. 4 For that God hath given (b) two angels (c) ( [1] ) to every man for notaries, the one writing the good, the other the evil that the man doth. 5 If then a man would receive mercy let him measure his talking more than gold is measured.

كان الكلام ضروريا فقط كما يصرف الذهب على الأشياء الضرورية 17 فكما لا يصرف أحد ذهبا على شئ يكون من ورائه ضرر بجسده كذلك لا ينبغي له أن يتكلم عن شئ قد يضر نفسه.
الفصل الحادي والعشرون بعد المائة (ا)
1 إذا سجن حاكم مسجونا يمتحنه والمسجل يسجل قولوا لي كيف يتكلم رجل كهذا 2 فأجاب التلاميذ : إنه يتكلم بخوف وفي الموضوع حتى لا يجعل نفسه مظنة للتهمة ويكون على حذر من أن يقول شيئا يكدر الحاكم بل يحاول أن يقول شيئا يكون باعثا على إطلاقه 3 حينئذ أجاب يسوع : هذا ما يجب إذن على التائب عمله لكي لا يخسر نفسه 4 لأن الله أعطى (ب) لكل إنسان ملاكين (ج) ( [2] ) مسجلين أحدهما لتدوين الخير الذي يعمله الإنسان والآخر لتدوين الشر 5فإذا أحب الإنسان أن ينال رحمة أن يقيس كلامه بأدق مما يقاس به الذهب .
