ye are giving to God all that [ye give] for love of God. 10 Wherefore be not slow to give, and give of the best (a) of that which ye have, for love of God ( [1] ).
11 Tell me, desire ye to receive of God anything that is bad? Certainly not, O dust and ashes! 12 Then how have ye faith in you if ye shall give anything bad for love of God? (b).
13 ‘It were better to give nothing than to give a bad thing; 14 for in not giving ye shall have some excuse according to the world: 15 but in giving a worthless thing, and keeping the best for yourselves, what shall be the excuse?(c)’
16 ‘And this is all that I have to say to you concerning penitence.’
17 Barnabas answered: ‘How long ought penitence to last?’
18 Jesus replied: ‘As long as a man is in a state of sin he ought always to repent and do penance for it. 19 Wherefore as human life always sinneth, so ought it always to do penance ( [2] ); 20 unless ye would make more account of your shoes than of your soul, since every time that your shoes are burst ye mend them.’

a If you desire anything from God, you desire the best of things. If you do a deed of charity (almsgiving), give alms of what is good inde.
b According to what religion should he give alms of what is vile? inde.
c If you give unto God of what is vile, what can you say before God therewith? Inde.
إنكم تعطون الله كل شيء حبا في الله 10 فلا تبطئوا في العطاء وأعطوا خير (ا) ما عندكم حبا في الله ( [3] ) 11 قولوا لي أتريدون أن تنالوا شيئا رديئا من الله ؟ لا البتة أيها التراب والرماد 12 فكيف يكون عندكم إيمان إذا أعطيتم شيئا رديئا حبا في الله ؟ (ب) 13 ألاّ تعطوا شيئا خيرا من أن تعطوا شيئا رديئا 14 لأن لكم في عدم العطاء شيء من المعذرة في عرف العالم 15 ولكن ما تكون معذرتكم في إعطاء شيء لا قيمة له وإبقاء الأفضل لأنفسكم ؟ (ج) 16 وهذا كل ما أملك أن أقول لكم في شأن التوبة 17 أجاب برنابا : كم يجب أن تدوم التوبة ؟ 18 أجاب يسوع : يجب على الإنسان مادام في حال الخطيئة أن يتوب ويقوم بجهاد نفسه 19 فكما أن الحياة البشرية تخطئ على الدوام وجب عليها أن تقوم بجهاد النفس على الدوام ( [4] )20 إلا إذا كنتم تحسبون أحذيتكم أكرم من نفسكم لأنه كلما انفتق حذاؤكم أصلحتموه .

ا اذا ارديتم ( أردتم ) من الله شيئا ارديتم (أردتم ) خير الأشياء فاذا فعلتم عمل الصدقة اعملوا الصدقة من الخير ( الخيِّر ) منه
ب من أي دين عنده ينبغي ان يصدّق (يتصدَّق ) من الخبائس ( الخبائث ؟ ) منه
ج اذا اعطيتم الله تعلى من الخبائس ( الخبائث ) ما قلتم ( قولكم ) عند الله تعلى منه
