only iniquity; 22 of the world, that offereth nought but sin; 23 of the wicked, who, serving Satan, persecute whosoever would live according to the law of God? 24 Certain it is, brethren, that if man, as saith our father David ( [1] ), with his eyes should consider eternity, he would not sin.
25 ‘To extol oneself on one’s heart is but to lock up the pity and mercy of God, that he pardon not. 26 For our father David saith that our God remembereth that we are but dust ( [2] ) and that our spirit goeth and returneth not again. 27 Whoso extolleth himself, then, denieth that be is dust, and hence, not knowing his need, he asketh not help, and so angereth God his helper (a)( [3] ). 28 As God liveth (b) in whose presence my soul standeth, God would pardon Satan if Satan should know his own misery, and ask mercy of his creator, who blessed for evermore( [4] ).’

إلا الإثم 22 وعن العالم الذي لا يقدم إلا الخطيئة 23 وعن الشرير الذي لما كان يخدم الشيطان يضطهد كل من يعيش بحسب شريعة الله ؟ 24 ومن المؤكد أيها الاخوة أن الإنسان كما يقول ( [5] ) داود : " لو تأمل الأبدية بعينه لما أخطأ " 25 ليس تغطرس الإنسان بقلبه سوى إقفال رأفة الله ورحمته حتى لا يعود يصفح 26 لأن أبانا داود يقول : " إن إلهنا يذكر أننا لسنا سوى تراب ( [6] ) وأن روحنا تمضي ولا تعود أيضا " 27 فمن تغطرس إذا أنكر أنه تراب وعليه فلما كان لا يعرف حاجته فهو لا يطلب عونا فيغضب الله معينه (ا)( [7] ) 28 لعمر الله (ب) الذي تقف نفسي في حضرته أن الله يعفو عن الشيطان لو عرف الشيطان شقاءه وطلب رحمة من خالقه المبارك إلى الأبد ( [8] ) .
