1 Accordingly, brethren, I, a man, dust and clay, that walk upon the earth, say unto you: Do penance and know your sins. 2 I say, brethren, that Satan, by means of the Roman soldiery, deceived you when ye said that I was God. 3 wherefore, beware that ye believe them not, seeing they are fallen under the curse of God (b), serving the false and lying gods; even as our father David invoketh ( [1] ) a curse (b) upon them, saying: “The gods of the nations are silver and gold, the work of their hands; that have eyes and see not, have ears and hear not, have noses and smell not, have a mouth and eat not, have a tongue and speak not, have hands and touch not, have feet and walk not.” 4 Wherefore said David our father, praying our living God, (c) “Like unto them be they that make them and they that trust ( [2] ) in them.”

الفصل الثامن والعشرون بعد المائة (ا)

1 لذلك أقول لكم أيها الأخوة إنني أنا الذي هو الإنسان تراب وطين يسير على الأرض أقول لكم جاهدوا أنفسكم واعرفوا خطاياكم 2 أقول أيها الأخوة أن الشيطان ضللكم بواسطة الجنود الرومانية عندما قلتم أنني أنا الله 3 فإحذروا أن تصدقوهم لأنهم واقعون تحت لعنة الله (ب) وعابدون الآلهة الباطلة الكاذبة كما أستنزل أبونا ( [3] ) داود لعنة (ب) عليهم قائلا : ( إن آلهة الأمم فضة وذهب عمل أيديهم لها أعين ولا تبصر لها آذان ولا تسمع لها مناخر ولا تشم لها فم ولا تأكل لها لسان ولا تنطق لها أيدي ولا تلمس لها أرجل ولا تمشي ) 4 لذلك قال داود أبونا ضارعا إلى إلهنا الحي (ج) : ( مثلها يكون صانعوها بل كل من يتكل عليها ( [4] ) 5 يا لكبرياء لم يسمع بمثلها- كبرياء الإنسان الذي
