to the farther side of Jordan, 2 and fasted forty days and forty nights, not eating anything day nor night ( [1] ), making continual supplication to the Lord for the salvation of his people to whom God had sent him (a). 3 and when the forty days were passed he was an hungred.
4 Then appeared Satan unto him, and tempted him in many words, but Jesus drave him away by the power of words of God. 6 Satan, having departed, the angels came and ministered unto Jesus that whereof he had need (b).
7 Jesus, having returned to the region of Jerusalem, was found again of the people with exceeding great joy, 8 and they prayed him that he would abide with them; for his words were not as those of the scribes, but were with power ( [2] ),for they touched the heart.
9 Jesus seeing that great was the multitude of them that returned to their heart for to walk in the law of God, went up into the
mountain ( [3] ), and abode all night in prayer, 10 and when day was come he descended from the mountain, and chose twelve, whom he called apostles, among whom is Judas, who was slain upon the cross. 11 Their names

إلى الجانب الأقصى من عبر الأردن 2 وصام أربعين يوما وليلة لم يأكل شيئا ليلا ولا نهارا ( [4] ) ضارعا دوما إلى الرب لخلاص شعبه الذي أرسله الله إليه (ا ) 3 فلما انقضت الأربعون يوما جاع 4 فظهر له حينئذ الشيطان وجربه بكلمات كثيرة 5 ولكن يسوع طرده بقوة كلمات الله 6 فلما انصرف الشيطان جاءته الملائكة وقدمت ليسوع كل ما يحتاج (ب ) 7 أما يسوع فغاد إلى نواحي أورشليم ووجده الشعب مرة أخرى بفرح عظيم 8 ورجاه أن يمكث معهم لأن كلماته لم تكن ككلمات الكتبة بل كانت قوية ( [5] ) لأنها أثرت في القلب 9 فلما رأى يسوع أن الجمهور الذي عاد إلى نفسه ليسلك في شريعة الله جمهور غفير صعد الجبل ( [6] ) ومكث كل الليل بالصلاة 10 فلما طلع النهار نزل من الجبل وانتخب إثني عشر سماهم رسلا منهم يهوذا الذي صلب 11 أما أسماؤهم فهي
