14 Jesus cried out: ‘Hold thy peace, John, for I fear lest God should cast us into the abyss, even like Abiram ( [1] ), for our pride!’

15 The disciples trembled with fear at the words of Jesus; when he said again: ‘Let us fear God, that He cast us not into the abyss for our pride.

16 ‘O brethren, have ye heard of John what is done in the house of a prince? 17 Woe to the men that come into the world, for as they live in pride they shall die in contempt and shall go into confusion.

18 ‘For this world is a house where God feasteth men, wherein have eaten all the holy ones and prophets of God. 19 And verily I say to you, everything that a man receiveth, he receiveth it from God ( [2] ). 20 Wherefore man ought to bear himself with deepest humility; knowing his own vileness ( [3] )and the greatness of God (a), with the great bounty ( [4] ) wherewith he nourisheth us. 21 Therefore it is not lawful for man to say: “Ah, why is this done and this said in the world?” but rather to

لخدمته طول أيام حياتي 14 فأجاب يسوع : صه يا يوحنا لأني أخشى أن يطرحنا الله في الهاوية لكبريائنا كأبيرام ( [5] ) 15 فارتعد التلاميذ خوفا من كلام يسوع فعاد وقال : لنخش الله لكي لا يطرحنا في الهاوية لكبريائنا 16 أسمعتم أيها الأخوة من يوحنا ما صنع في بيت أمير 17 ويل للبشر الذين أتوا إلى العالم لأنهم كما يعيشون في الكبرياء سيموتون في المهانة وسيذهبون إلى الاضطراب 18 فإن هذا العالم بيت يولم الله فيه للبشر حيث أكل كل الأطهار وأنبياء الله 19 والحق أقول لكم أن كل ما ينال الإنسان إنما يناله من الله ( [6] )20 لذلك يجب على الإنسان أن يتصرف بأعظم ضعة عارفا حقارته ( [7] ) وعظمة الله (ا) مع كرمه العظيم ( [8] ) الذي يغذينا به 21 لذلك لا يجوز للمرء أن يقول : لماذا فعل هذا أو قيل هذا في العالم ؟ بل يجب عليه
