and said: ‘How should one listen to the word of God; and how should one know him that preacheth for love of God?’
17 Jesus answered: ‘He that preacheth should be listened to as though God were speaking, when he preacheth good doctrine; because God is speaking through his mouth ( [1] ). 18 But he that reproveth not sins, having respect of persons, flattering particular men, should be avoided as an horrible serpent, for in truth he poisoneth the human heart.
19 ‘Understand ye? 20 Verily I say unto you. Even as a wounded man hath no need of fine bandages to bind up his wounds, but rather of a good ointment, so also hath a sinner no need of fine words, but rather of good reproofs, in order that may cease to sin.’

1 Then said Peter: ‘O Master, tell us how the lost shall be tormented and how long they shall be in hell,

وقال : كيف يجب على الإنسان أن يصغي إلى كلمة الله وكيف يمكن لأحد أن يعرف الذي يبشر لأجل محبة الله ؟ 17 أجاب يسوع : إنه يجب أن يصغي إلى من يبشر متى بشَّر بتعليم صالح كان المتكلم هو الله لكنه يتكلم بفمه ( [2] ) 18 ولكن من يترك التوبيخ على الخطايا محابيا بالوجوه ومداهنا أناسا خصوصيين فيجب تجنبه كأفعى مخوفة لأنه بالحقيقة يسم القلب البشري 19 أتفهمون ؟ 20 الحق أقول لكم أنه كما لا حاجة بالجريح إلى عصائب جميلة لعصب جراحة بل يحتاج بالحري إلى مرهم جيد هكذا لا حاجة بالخاطئ إلى كلام مزوّق بل بالحرى إلى توبيخات صالحة لكي ينقطع عن الخطيئة .
1 فقال حينئذ بطرس : يا معلم قل لنا كيف يعذب الهالكون وكم يبقون في الجحيم
