1 When morning was come, early, all the men of the city with the women and children, came to the house where Jesus was with his disciples, 2 and besought him saying: ‘Sir, have mercy upon us, because this year the worms have eaten the corn, and we shall not receive any bread this year in our land ( [1] ).’
3 Jesus answered: ‘Oh what fear is yours! 4 Know ye not that Elijah, the servant of God, whilst for three years the persecution of Ahab continued, saw not bread, nourishing himself only with herbs and wild fruits (a)? 5 David our father, the prophet of God, for two years ate wild fruits and herbs, being persecuted of Saul ( [2] ), insomuch that twice only did he eat bread.’
6 The men answered: ‘Sir they were prophets of God, nourished with spiritual delight, and therefore they endured well; 7 but how

حتى ولو لم يعمل عملا صالحا لأنه مات على دينه .
1 ولما طلع الصباح جاء باكرا رجال المدينة كلهم مع النساء والأطفال إلى البيت الذي كان فيه يسوع وتلاميذه 2 وتوسلوا إليه قائلين : يا سيد ارحمنا لأن الديدان قد أكلت في هذه السنة الحبوب ولا نحصل في هذه السنة على خبز في أرضنا ( [3] ) 3 أجاب يسوع : ما هذا الخوف الذي أنتم فيه؟ 4 ألا تعلمون أن إيليا خادم الله (ا) لم ير خبزا مدة اضطهاد أخاب له ثلاث سنين متغذيا بالبقول والثمار البرية فقط؟ 5 وعاش داود أبونا نبي الله مدة سنتين على الثمار البرية والبقول إذ اضطهده شاول ( [4] ) حتى أنه لم يذق الخبز سوى مرتين 6 أجاب القوم: إنهم أيها السيد كانوا أنبياء الله يتغذون بالمسرة الروحية ولذلك احتملوا كل شئ 7 ولكن ماذا
