for he carried Jesus’ purse, wherein was kept all that was given him for love of God. 3 He hoped that Jesus would become king of Israel, and so he himself would be a powerful man. 4 Wherefore, having lost this hope, he said within himself: ‘If this man were a prophet, he would know that I steal his money; and so he would lose patience and cast me out of his service, knowing that I believe not in him. 5 And if he were a wise man he would not flee from the honour that God willeth to give him. 6 Wherefore it will be better that I make arrangement with the chief priests and with the scribes and Pharisees, and see how to give him up into their hands ( [1] ), for so shall I be able to obtain something good.’ 7 Whereupon having made his resolution, he gave notice to the scribes and Pharisees how the matter had passed in Nain. 8 And they took counsel with the high priest, saying: ‘What shall we do if this man become king? 9 Of a surety we shall fare badly; because he is fain to reform the Worship of God after the ancient custom, 10 for he cannot away with our traditions. 11 Now how shall we fare under the sovereignty of such a man? 12 Surely we shall all perish
2 لأنه كان يحمل كيس يسوع حيث كان يحفظ فيه كل ما كان يعطي له حبا في الله 3 فهو قد رجا أن يصير يسوع ملكا على إسرائيل وأنه هو نفسه يصبح رجلا عزيزا 4 فلما فقد هذا الرجاء قال في نفسه : لو كان هذا الرجل نبيا لعرف إني اختلس نقوده ولكان حنق وطردني من خدمته إذ يعلم إني لا أؤمن به 5 ولو كان حكيما لما هرب من المجد الذي يريد الله أن يعطيه إياه 6 فالأجدر بي إذاً أن أتفق مع رؤساء الكهنة والكتبة والفريسيين ونرى كيف أسلمه إلى أيديهم ( [2] ) فبهذا أتمكن من تحصيل شئ من النفع 7 فبعد أن عقد النية أخبر الكهنة والفريسيين عما حدث في نايين 8 فتشاوروا مع رئيس الكهنة قائلين :" ماذا نفعل لو صار هذا الرجل ملكا ؟ 9 حقا إن ذلك يكون وبالا علينا فإنه يريد أن يصلح عبادة الله على حسب السنة القديمة 10 لأنه لا يقدر أن يبطل تقاليدنا 11 فكيف يكون مصيرنا تحت سلطان رجل كهذا ؟ 12 حقا إننا نهلك
