1 ‘While they were making merry in the house ( [2] ), behold the elder son came home, 2 and he, hearing that they were making merry within, marvelled, and having called one of the servants, he asked him wherefore they were in such wise making merry.

3 The servant answered him: “Thy brother is come and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, and they are feasting.” 4 The elder son was greatly angered when he heard this, and would not go into the house. 5 Therefore came his father out to him and said to him: “Son, thy brother is come, come thou therefore and rejoice with him.”

عبدا لي " 18 ثم دعا خدمه وقال:" اخرجوا الحلل وألبسوا ابني إياها وأعطوه سراويل جديدة 19 اجعلوا الخاتم في إصبعه 20 واذبحوا حالا العجل المسمن فنطرب 21 لأن ابني هذا كان ميتا فعاش وكان ضالا فوجد " ( [3] ).

 

 

الفصل السابع والأربعون بعد المائة

 

1  وبينما كانوا يطربون في البيت ( [4] ) وإذا بالبكر جاء إلى البيت 2 فلما سمعهم يطربون في الداخل تعجب ، فدعا أحد الخدم وسأله لماذا كانوا في مثل هذا الطرب 3 أجاب الخادم :" لقد جاء أخوك فذبح له أبوك العجل المسمن وهم في طرب " 4 فلما سمع البكر هذا تغيظ غيظا شديدا ولم يدخل البيت 5 فخرج أبوه إليه وقال له :" يا بني لقد جاء أخوك فتعال إذا وافرح معه" 6 أجاب الابن بغيظ :" لقد
