whom God hath sent for the chastisement of Israel?
21 The younger answered: “ Now how should I know, seeing these fifteen years I have seen no man save thee, and I know not how to read, wherefore no letters be sent unto me?”
22 ‘Said the elder : “Now , how new thy sheepskins be! Who hath given them to thee (a), if thou hast not seen any man?”
1 ‘The younger answered: “He who kept good the raiment of the people of Israel for forty years in the wilderness ( [1] ) hath kept my skins even as thou seest.”
2 Then the elder perceived that the younger was more perfect than he, for he had every year had dealings with men. 3 Whereupon, in order that he might have [the benefit of] his conversation, he said: “Brother, thou knowest not how to read, and I know how to read, and I have in my house the psalms of David. 4 Come, then, that I may each day give thee a reading and make plain to thee what David saith.”
5 The younger answered: “Let us go now”
6 ‘Said the elder: “O brother it is now two days since I have drunk water; let us therefore seek

الذي أرسله الله لتأديب إسرائيل ؟" أجاب الأصغر :" كيف يمكن أن أعرف وأنا لم أر إنسانا مدة هذه الخمس عشرة سنة سواك وأجهل القراءة فلا ترسل إلي رسائل ؟" 22 قال الأكبر :" ما أجد جلود الغنم التي عليك فإذا كنت لم تر إنسانا فمن أعطاك (ا) إياها ؟"
1 أجاب الأصغر :" إن من حفظ ثياب شعب إسرائيل جديدة أربعين سنة في البرية ( [2] ) حفظ جلودي كما ترى 2 حينئذ لاحظ الأكبر أن الأصغر ( كان أكبر منه لأنه ) ( [3] ) كان أكمل منه لأنه كان يختلط بالناس 3 ولذلك قال لكي يظفر بمحادثته :" أيها الأخ إنك لا تعرف القراءة وأنا أعرف القراءة وعندي في بيتي مزامير داود 4 فتعال إذا لأعطيك كل يوم قراءة وأوضح لك ما يقول داود " 5 أجاب الأصغر :" لنذهب الآن " 6 قال الأكبر :" أيها الأخ إنني منذ يومين لم أشرب ماء فلنفتش إذا
