aged, perceiving the truth and righteousness of his companion: “It is true; and our God hath pardoned thee (a).”
19 And having said this he took the psalms, and read that which our father David saith: “( [1] ) I will set a watch over my mouth that my tongue decline not to words of iniquity, excusing with excuse my sins.” 20 And here the aged man made a discourse upon the tongue, and the younger departed. 21 Whereupon they were fifteen years more ere they found one another, because the younger changed his dwelling.
22 ‘Accordingly, when he had found him again, the elder said “O brother, wherefore returnedst thou not to my dwelling?”
23 ‘The younger answered: “Because I have not yet learned well what thou saidst to me.”
24 ‘Then said the elder: “How can this be, seeing fifteen years are past?”
25 ‘The younger replied: “As for the words, I learned them in a single hour and have never forgotten them, but I have not yet observed them ( [2] ) 26 To what purpose is it, then, to learn too much, and not to observe it? 27 Our God seeketh not that our intellect should be good, but rather our heart. 28 So on the day of judgement, he will not ask us what we have learned,

a God pardons.
صدق وبرارة رفيقه قال :" إنه لصحيح غفر لك إلهنا (ا) " 19 وبعد أن هذا أخذ المزامير وقرأ ما يقول أبونا ( [3] ) داود : " إني أضع حارسا لفمي حتى لا يميل قلبي إلى كلمات الإثم منتحلا عذرا عن خطاياي " 20 وهنا ألقى الشيخ خطابا على اللسان وانصرف الأصغر 21 فلبثا من ثم خمس عشرة سنة أخرى حتى التقيا لأن الأصغر غيَّر مسكنه 22 لذلك عندما عاد الأكبر فلقيه قال :" لماذا لم ترجع أيها الأخ إلى مسكني ؟" 23 أجاب الأصغر :" لأني لم أتعلم جيدا حتى الآن ما قلته لي " 24 فقال الأكبر :" كيف يمكن ذلك وقد مرت الآن خمس عشر سنة " 25 أجاب الأصغر :" أما الكلمات فقد تعلمتها في ساعة واحدة ولم أنسها قط ولكني حتى الآن لم أحفظها ( [4] ) 26 فما الفائدة من أن يتعلم المرء كثيرا جدا ولا يحفظه ؟ 27 إن الله لا يطلب أن تكون بصيرتنا جيدة بل قلبنا 28 وهكذا لا يسألنا في يوم الدينونة عما تعلمنا
