17 Jesus answered: ‘If they are omnipotent as ye say, pardon me, for I will worship them.’
18 The soldiers rejoiced at hearing this, and began to extol their idols.
19 Then said Jesus: ‘Herein is not need of words but of deeds; 20 cause therefore that your gods create, one fly, and I will worship them.’
21 The soldiers were dismayed at hearing this, and wise not what to say, 22 wherefore Jesus said: ‘Assuredly, seeing they make not a single fly afresh ( [1] ), I will not for them forsake that God who hath created everything with a single word (a)( [2] ); whose name alone affrighteth armies.’
23 The soldiers answered: ‘Now let us see this; for we are fain to take thee,’ and they were fain to stretch forth their hands against Jesus.
24 Then said Jesus: ‘Adonai Sabaoth (b)(c)! 25 Whereupon straightway the soldiers were rolled out of the Temple ( [3] ) as one rolleth casks of wood when they are washed

كيف تتكلم لأنك إذا صببت احتقارا على آلهتنا سلمناك إلى يد هيرودس الذي ينتقم لآلهتنا القادرة على كل شئ 17 أجاب يسوع : إن كانت قادرة على كل شئ كما تقولون فعفوا لأني سأعبدها 18 ففرح الجنود لما سمعوا هذا وأخذوا يمجدون أصنامهم 19 فقال حينئذ يسوع : لا حاجة بنا هنا إلى الكلام بل إلى الأعمال 20 فاطلبوا لذلك من آلهتكم أن تخلق ذبابة واحدة فأعبدها 21 فراع الجنود سماع هذا ولم يدروا ما يقولون 22 فقال من ثم يسوع : إذا كانت لا تقدر أن تصنع ذبابة واحدة جديدة ( [4] ) فإني لا أترك لأجلها ذلك الإله الذي خلق كل شئ بكلمة (ا) ( [5] ) واحدة الذي مجرد اسمه يروع جيوشا 23 أجاب الجنود : لنرى هذا لأننا نريد أن نأخذك وأرادوا أن يمدوا أيديهم إلى يسوع 24 فقال حينئذ يسوع :" أدوناي (ب) صباؤت ! (ج) " 25 ففي الحال تدحرجت الجنود من الهيكل ( [6] ) كما يدحرج المرء براميل من خشب غسلت

ا خلق الله كل شئ في كلام واحد منه
ب الله عدناء وشباوت ( صباؤث ، وهو تعبير عبراني قديم معناه رب الجنود أي الملائكة والأنبياء ، ودراية كاتب الهوامش بالعبرانية القديمة تؤكد كونه من القرون الأولى بعد رسالة المسيح عليه السلام ) منه.
