7 for by reason of their murmuring our fathers entered not into the land of promise, but only their children ( [1] ). 8 And for this sin the serpents slew about seventy thousand ( [2] ) of our people.

9 ‘As God liveth (a) in whose presence my soul standeth, he that stealeth honour is worthy of greater punishment than he that robbeth a man of goods and of life. 10 And he that hearkeneth to the murmurer is likewise guilty, for the one receiveth Satan on his tongue and the other in his ears.’

11 ‘The Pharisees were consumed [with rage] at hearing this, because they were not able to condemn ( [3] ) his speech.

12 Then there drew nigh to Jesus a doctor, and said to him: ‘Good master, tell me, wherefore God did not grant corn and fruit to our fathers? 13 Knowing that they must needs fall, surely he should have allowed them corn, or not have suffered men to see it.’

14 Jesus answered: ‘Man, thou callest me good ( [4] ), but thou errest, for God alone is good (b). And much more dost thou err in asking why God hath not done according to thy brain. 16 Yet I will answer thee all. 17 I tell thee, then,

7 لأن آباءنا بسبب تذمرهم لم يدخلوا أرض الموعد بل أبناؤهم ( [5] ) 8 ولهذه الخطيئة قتلت الأفاعي نحو سبعين ألفا من ( [6] ) شعبنا 9 لعمر الله (ا) الذي تقف نفسي في حضرته إن من يسرق الشرف يستحق عقوبة أعظم ممن يسرق رجلا ماله وحياته 10 ومن يصغي إلى المتذمر فهو مذنب أيضا لأن أحدهم يقبل الشيطان بلسانه والآخر من أذنيه 11 فلما سمع الفريسيون هذا احتدموا غيظا لأنهم لم يقدروا أن يخطِّئوا خطابه ( [7] ) 12 فدنا حينئذ أحد العلماء من يسوع : أيها المعلم الصالح قل لي لماذا لم يهب الله أبوينا حنطة وثمرا 13 فإنه إذا كان يعلم أنه لا بد من سقوطهما فمن المؤكد أنه كان يجب أن يسمح لهما بالحنطة أو أن لا يرياها 14 أجاب يسوع : إنك أيها الرجل تدعوني ( [8] ) صالحا ولكنك تخطأ لأن الله وحده (ب) هو الصالح 15 وإنك لأكثر خطأ في سؤالك لماذا لا يفعل الله حسب دماغك 16 ولكن أجيبك عن كل شئ 17 فأفيدك إذا

[1] This points out that the promise was fulfilled when sons of Israel interred land of Canaan after Moses (PBUH), which agrees with what in Acts 7: 17 “ But when the time of the promise drew nigh, which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied …”, this contradicts what the Jews say that this promise was not fulfilled and that they are trying to make it happen, see Al-Ma’idah 5: 21-26, Numbers 14: 29,30.

[5] يشير هذا أن الموعد قد تم بدخول بني إسرائيل أرض كنعان بعد موسى عليه السلام ، وهو في ذلك يتفق مع ما جاء في أعمال الرسل 7 :17 " وكما كان يقرب وقت الموعد الذي أقسم الله عليه لإبراهيم كان ينمو الشعب ...
