26 The doctor was astounded when he heard this and departed in confusion.

1 Then the high-priest called two old priests secretly and sent them to Jesus, who was gone out of the temple, and was sitting in Solomon’s porch ( [2] ), waiting to pray the midday prayer. 2 And near him he had his disciples with a great multitude of people.
3 The priests drew near to Jesus and said: ‘Master, wherefore did man eat corn and fruit ( [3] )? 4 Did God will that he should eat it or no? 5 and this they said tempting him; 6 for if he said ‘God willed it,’ they would answer: ‘Why did he forbid it?’ 7 and if he said: ‘God willed it not,’ they would say: ‘Then man hath more power than God, since he worketh contrary to the will of God.’
8 Jesus answered: ‘Your question is like a road over a mountain, which hath a precipice on the right hand and on the left: but I will walk in the middle.’

حيث حياته وخلاصه لنفسه أو لعنته ( [4] ) 26 فلما سمع العالم هذا اندهش وانصرف مرتبكا .
الفصل الخامس والخمسون بعد المئة (ا)
1 حينئذ دعا رئيس الكهنة سرا كاهنين شيخين وأرسلهم إلى يسوع الذي كان قد خرج من الهيكل وكان جالسا في رواق سليمان ( [5] ) منتظرا ليصلي صلاة الظهيرة 2 وكان بجانبه تلاميذه مع جم غفير من الشعب 3 فاقترب الكاهنان من يسوع وقالا : لماذا أكل الإنسان حنطة وثمرا ( [6] ) ؟ 4 هل أراد الله أن يأكلهما أم لا ؟ 5 وإنما قالا هذا ليجرباه 6 لأنه لو قال : إن الله أراد ذلك لأجابا لماذا نهى عنها؟ 7 وإذا قال : إن الله لم يرد ذلك يقولان : إن للإنسان قوة أعظم من الله لأنه يعمل ضد إرادة الله 8 أجاب يسوع : إن سؤالكما كطريق في جبل ذو جرف عن اليمين وعن اليسار ولكن أسير في الوسط 9 فلما سمع الكاهنان
