the priests were confounded, perceiving that he knew their heart.
10 Then said Jesus: ‘Every man, for that he hath need, worketh everything for his own use. 11 But God (a), who hath no need of anything, wrought according to his good pleasure. 12 Wherefore in Creating man he created him free in order that he might know that God had no need of Him( [1] ); 13 Verbi gratia, as doth a King, who to display his riches, and in order that his slaves may love him more, giveth freedom to his slaves.
14 God, then, created(b) man free in order that he might love his Creator much the more and might know his bounty. 15 For although God is omnipotent (c)( [2] ), not having need of man, having created him by his omnipotence, he left him free by his bounty (d)( [3] ), in such wise that he could resist evil and do good. 16 For although God had power to hinder sin, he would not contradict his own bounty (e) (for God hath no contradiction) in order that, his omnipotence and bounty having wrought in man, he should not contradict sin in man, I say, in order that in man might work the mercy

ذلك تحيرا لأنهما أدركا أن يسوع قد فهم قلبيهما 10 ثم قال يسوع : لما كان كل إنسان محتاجا كان يعمل كل شئ لأجل منفعته 11 ولكن الله (ا) الذي لا يحتاج إلى شئ عمل بحسب مشيئته 12 لذلك لما خلق الإنسان خلقه حرا ليعلم أن ليس لله حاجة إليه ( [4] ) 13 (جلّت قدرته ؟؟ ) كما يفعل الملك الذي يعطي حرية لعبيده ليظهر ثروته وليكون عبيده أشد حبا له 14 إذا قد خلق (ب) الله الإنسان حرا لكي يكون أشد حبا لخالقه وليعرف جودَه 15 لأن الله وهو قادر (ج) على كل شئ ( [5] ) غير محتاج إلى الإنسان فإنه إذ خلقه بقدرته على كل شئ تركه حرا بجوده (د) ( [6] ) على طريقة يمكنه معها مقاومة الشر وفعل الخير 16 وأن الله على قدرته على منع الخطيئة لم يرد أن يضاد جوده (هـ) ( إذ ليس عند الله تضاد ) فلما عملت قدرته على كل شئ وجوده (عملهما ) في الإنسان لم يقاوم الخطيئة في الإنسان لكي تعمل في الإنسان رحمة
