‘Neither Abraham nor Moses, nor any prophet have I seen in a dream and been healed by him, 25 but as I sat at the gate of the temple a man made me come near to him 26 and, having made clay of earth with his spittle, put some of that clay upon mine eyes and sent me to the pool of Siloam to wash; 27 whereupon I went, and washed me, and returned with the light of mine eyes.’
28 The high-priest asked him the name of that man.
29 The man born blind answered: ‘He told me not his name, 30 but a man who saw him called me and said: “Go and wash thee as that man hath said, 31 for he is Jesus the Nazarene, a prophet and an holy one of the God of Israel.”’
32 Then said the high-priest: ‘Did he heal thee perchance today, that is the Sabbath?’
33 The blind man answered: ‘To-day he healed me.’
34 Said the high-priest: ‘Behold, now, how that this fellow is a sinner, seeing he keepeth not the Sabbath!’
1 The blind man answered: ‘( [1] ) Whether he is a sinner I know not; 2 but this I know, that whereas I was blind he hath enlightened me.’
3 The Pharisees did not believe this; 4 so they said to the high-priest:
إني لم أر في حلم ولم يشفني لا إبراهيم ولا موسى ولا نبي آخر 25 ولكن بينا أنا جالس على باب الهيكل أدناني رجل إليه 26 وبعد أن صنع طينا من تراب بتفله وضع بعضا من ذلك الطين على عيني وأرسلني إلى بركة سلوام لأغتسل 27 فذهبت واغتسلت وعدت بنور عيني 28 فسأله رئيس الكهنة عن اسم الرجل 29 فأجاب الرجل الذي ولد أعمى : إنه لم يذكر لي اسمه 30 ولكن رجل رآه ناداني وقال: اذهب واغتسل كما قال ذلك الرجل 31 لأنه يسوع الناصري نبي إله إسرائيل وقدوسه 32 فقال حينئذ رئيس الكهنة : لعله أبرأك اليوم أي السبت ؟ 33 أجاب الأعمى : إنه أبرأني اليوم 34 فقال رئيس الكهنة : انظروا الآن كيف أن هذا الرجل خاطئ لا يحفظ السبت !
الفصل السابع والخمسون بعد المئة
1 أجاب الأعمى ( [2] (: لست أعلم أ خاطئ هو أم لا 2 إنما أعلم هذا وهو أني كنت أعمى فأنارني 3 فلم يصدق الفريسيون هذا 4 لذلك قالوا لرئيس الكهنة :
