‘Send for his father and mother, for they will tell us the truth.’ 5 They sent, therefore, for the father and mother of the blind man, 6 and when they were come the high-priest questioned them saying: ‘Is this man your son?’
7 They answered : ‘He is verily our son.’
8 Then said the high-priest: ‘He saith that he was born bind, and now he seeth; how hath this thing befallen?’
9 The father and mother of the man born blind replied: ‘Verily he was born blind, but how he may have received the light, we know not; 10 he is of age ask hem and he will tell you the truth.’
11 Thereupon they were dismissed, and the high-priest said again to the man born blind: ‘Give glory to God, and speak the truth.’
12 (now the father and mother of the blind man were afraid to speak, 13 because a decree had gone forth from the Roman senate that no man might contend for Jesus, the prophet of the Jews, under pain of death: 14 this decree had the governor obtained 15 wherefore they said: ‘He is of age, ask him.’)
16 The high priest, then, said to the man born blind: ‘Give glory to God and speak the truth, for we know this man, whom thou sayest to have healed thee, that he is sinner.’
17 The man born blind answered:
أرسل وادع أباه وأمه لأنهما يقولون لنا الصدق 5 فدعوا أبا الرجل الأكمه وأمه 7 فلما حضرا سألهما رئيس الكهنة قائلا : هل هذا الرجل ابنكما ؟ 7 أجابا : إنه ابننا حقا 8 فقال حينئذ رئيس الكهنة : يقول أنه ولد أعمى والآن يبصر فكيف حدث هذا الشيء ؟أجاب أبو الرجل الذي ولد أعمى وأمه : إنه ولد حقا أعمى ولكن لا نعلم كيف نال النور 10 هو كامل السن اسألوه يقل لكم الصدق 11 فصرفوهما وعاد الرئيس فقال للرجل الذي ولد أعمى : اعط مجدا لله وقل الصدق – 12 وكان أبو الرجل الأعمى وأمه خائفين أن يتكلما 13 لأنه صدر أمر من مجلس الشيوخ الروماني أنه لا يجوز لإنسان أن يتحزب ليسوع نبي اليهود وإلا فالعقاب الموت 14 وهو أمر استصدره الوالي 15 لذلك قالا : هو كامل السن اسألوه – 16 فقال حينئذ رئيس الكهنة للرجل الذي ولد أعمى اعط مجدا لله قل الصدق لأننا نعلم أن هذا الرجل الذي تقول أنه شفاك خاطئ 17 أجاب الرجل الذي ولد أعمى:
