21 Accordingly, had the prophet Amos said: “There is no good in the city but what God hath wrought it,” he had given occasion for despair to the afflicted, as they beheld themselves in tribulation and sinners living in prosperity. 22 And what is worse many, believing Satan to have such sovereignty over man, would have feared Satan and done him service, so as not to suffer tribulation. 23 Amos therefore did as doth the Roman interpreter, who considereth not his words [as one] speaking in the presence of the high-priest, but considereth the will and the business of the Jew that knoweth not to speak the Hebrew tongue.

1 If Amos had said: “There is no good in the city but what God hath done it,” as God liveth (b), in whose presence my soul standeth, he would have made a grievous error, 2 for the world holdeth not for good ought save the iniquities and sins that are done in the way of vanity (c). 3 Whereupon men would have wrought much more iniquitously, believing that ( [1] ) there be not any sin or wickedness

21 فلو قال النبي عاموس :" ليس في المدينة من خير إلا كان الله صانعه " لكان ذلك وسيلة لقنوط المصابين متى رأوا أنفسهم في المحن والخطاة في سعة من العيش 22 وأنكى من ذلك أنه متى صدق كثيرون أن للشيطان سلطة على الإنسان خافوا الشيطان وخدموه تخلصا من البلايا 23 فلذلك فعل عاموس ما يفعله الترجمان الروماني الذي لا ينظر في كلامه كأنه يتكلم في حضرة رئيس الكهنة بل ينظر إلى إرادة مصلحة اليهودي الذي لا يعرف التكلم باللسان العبراني.

1 لو قال عاموس :" ليس في المدينة من خير إلا كان الله صانعه " لكان لعمر (ب) الله الذي تقف نفسي في حضرته قد ارتكب خطأ فاحشا 2 لأن العالم لا يرى خيرا سوى الظلم والخطايا التي تصنع في سبيل الباطل (ج) 3 وعليه يكون الناس أشد توغلا في الإثم لأنهم يعتقدون أنه ( [2] ) لا يوجد خطيئة أو شر

ج لا يرى اهل الدنيا خير الا حرما ( الحرمات ) وخبائث الدنيا ويعمل بهما منه
