of God have been granted him by God of his bounty (a). 4 And he saith it in order that man may shun the opinion that there be other gods than he.

5 ‘If therefore, he hardened Pharaoh he did it because he had afficted our people and essayed to bring it to nought by destroying all the male children in Israel: whereby Moses was nigh to losing his life.

6 Accordingly, I say unto you verily, that predestination hath for its foundation the law of God and human free will (b). 7 Yea, and even if God could save the whole world (c) so that none should perish he would not will to do so ( [1] ) 8 lest thus he should deprive man of freedom, which he preserveth to him in order to do despite to Satan, in order that this [lump of] clay scorned of the spirit, even though it shall sin as the spirit did, may have power to repent and go to dwell in that place whence the spirit was cast out. 9 Our God willeth, I say, to pursue with his mercy man’s free will, 10 and willeth not to forsake the creature with his omnipotence (d). 11 And so on the day of judgement none will be able to make any excuse for their sins, 12 seeing

الله قد منحهما الله من جوده (ا) 4 ويقوله ليتجنب البشر الذهاب إلى أنه يوجد آلهة أخرى سواه 5فإذا هو قسّى فرعون فإنما فعله لأنه نكّل بشعبنا وحاول أن يبغي عليه بإبادة كل الأطفال الذكور من إسرائيل حتى كاد موسى يخسر حياته 6 وعليه أقول إن أساس القدر إنما هو شريعة الله وحرية الإرادة البشرية (ب) 7 بل لو قدّر الله أن يخلص العالم كله (ج) حتى لا يهلك أحد لما أراد أن يفعل ذلك ( [2] ) لكيلا يجرد الإنسان من الحرية التي يحفظها له ليكيد الشيطان حتى يكون لهذه الطينة التي امتهنها الروح ( الشيطان ) ـ وإن أخطأت كما فعل الروح ـ قدرة على التوبة والذهاب للسكن في ذلك الموضع الذي طرد منه الروح 9 فأقول إن إلهنا يريد أن يتبع برحمته حرية إرادة الإنسان 10 ولا يريد أن يترك بقدرته (د) غير المتناهية المخلوق 11 وهكذا لا يقدر أحد في يوم الدين أن يعتذر عن خطاياه 12 لأنه يتضح
