for he saith that the book of Moses hath taken away from him the book of Moses.”
8 ‘Haggai answered: “Would to God, O brother, that I were mad in like manner, and that all mad folk were like unto Hosea!”
9 ‘Now the Syrian robbers ( [1] ) having raided the land of Judaea, 10 seized the son of a poor widow, who dwelt hard by Mount Carmel, where the prophets and Pharisees abode. 11 It chanced, accordingly, that Hosea having gone to cut wood met the woman, who was weeping. 12 Thereupon he straightway began to weep; 13 for whenever he saw any one laugh he laughed, and whenever he saw any one weep he wept. 14 Hosea then asked the woman touching the reason of her weeping, and she told him all.
15 ‘Then said Hosea: “Come sister, for God willeth to give thee thy son.”
16 ‘And they went both of them to Hebron, where Hosea sold himself, and gave the money to the widow, who, not knowing how he had gotten that money, accepted it, and redeemed her son.
17 ‘He who had bought Hosea took him to Jerusalem, where he had an abode, not knowing Hosea.
18 ‘Haggai seeing that Hosea was not to be found, remained afflicted thereat. 19 Whereupon the angel of God told him
لأنه يقول أن كتاب موسى قد أخذ منه كتاب موسى " 8 أجاب حجي :" يا ليتني كنت مجنونا مثله وكان كل المجانين نظير هوشع " 9 وشن لصوص ( [2] ) سوريا الغارة على أرض اليهودية 10 فأسروا ابن أرملة فقيرة كانت تسكن على مقربة من جبل الكرمل حيث كان الأنبياء والفريسيون يقيمون 11 فاتفق حينئذ أن هوشع كان ذاهبا ليقطع حطبا فالتقى بالمرأة وهي باكية 12 فشرع من ثم يبكي حالا 13 لأنه كان متى رأى ضاحكا ضحك ومتى رأى باكيا بكى 14 فسأل حينئذ هوشع المرأة عن سبب بكائها فأخبرته بكل شئ 15 فقال حينئذ هوشع :" تعالي أيتها الأخت لأن الله يريد أن يعطيك ابنك " 16 فذهب كلاهما إلى جرون حيث باع هوشع نفسه وأعطى النقود للأرملة التي لم تعلم كيف حصل عليها فقبلتها وافتدت ابنها 17 والذي اشترى هوشع أخذه إلى أورشليم حيث كان له منزل وهو لا يعرف هوشع 18فلما رأى حجي أنه لا يمكن العثور على هوشع لبث كاسف البال 19 فأخبره من ثم ملاك الله
