‘The zeal of thine honour, O God, enflameth me ( [1] ) and I cannot hold my peace. 7 Verily I say, the son of Abraham was Ishmael, from whom must be descended the Messiah (a) promised to Abraham, that in him should all the tribes of the earth be blessed ( [2] ).’
8 Then was the high priest wroth, hearing this, and cried out: ‘Let us stone this impious fellow, for he is an Ishmaelite, and hath spoken blasphemy against Moses and against the law of God.’
9 Whereupon every scribe and Pharisee, with the elders of the people, took up stones to stone Jesus, who vanished from their eyes and went out of the temple. 10 And then, through the great desire that they had to slay Jesus, blinded with fury and hatred, they struck one another in such wise that there died a thousand men; and they polluted the holy temple. 11 The disciples and believers, who saw Jesus go out of the temple (for from them he was not hidden), followed him to the house of Simon.
12 Thereupon Nicodemus came thither and counselled Jesus to go out of Jerusalem beyond the brook Cedron, saying: ‘Lord, I have a garden with a house beyond the brook Cedron ( [3] ), 13 I pray thee, therefore, go thither with

إن غيرة شرفك يا الله ( [4] ) تؤججني ولا أقدر أن أسكت 7 الحق أقول أن ابن إبراهيم هو إسماعيل الذي يجب أن يأتي من سلالته مسيا (ا) الموعود به إبراهيم أن به تتبارك كل قبائل الأرض ( [5] ) 8 فلما سمع هذا رئيس الكهنة حنق وصرخ : لنرجم هذا الفاجر لأنه إسماعيلي وقد جدَّف على موسى وعلى شريعة الله 9 فأخذ من ثم كل من الكتبة والفريسيين مع شيوخ الشعب حجارة ليرجموا يسوع فاختفى عن أعينهم وخرج من الهيكل 10 ثم إنهم بسبب شدة رغبتهم في قتل يسوع أعماهم الحنق والبغضاء فضرب بعضهم بعضا حتى مات ألف رجل ودنسوا الهيكل المقدس 11 أما التلاميذ والمؤمنون الذين رأوا يسوع خارجا من الهيكل ـ لأنه لم يكن محتجبا عنهم ـ فتبعوه إلى بيت سمعان 12 فجاء من ثم نيقوديموس إلى هناك وأشار على يسوع أن يخرج من أورشليم إلى ما وراء جدول قدرون ( [6] ) قائلا : يا سيد إن لي بستانا وبيتا وراء جدول قدرون 13 فأضرع إليك إذاً أن تذهب إلى هناك مع
