flesh rebelled against the spirit; 4 whereupon he swore, saying “ by God[1]I will cut thee!” 5 and having broken a piece of rock, he seized his flesh to cut it with the sharp edge of the stone: 6 whereupon he was rebuked by the angel Gabriel. 7 And he answered: “I have sworn by god to cut it ; I will never be a lair!”
8 Then the angel showed him the superfluity of his flesh, and that he cut off. 9 And hence, just as every man taketh flesh from the flesh of Adam, so is he bound to observe all that Adam promised with an oath. 10 This did Adam observe in his sons, 11 and from generation to generation came down the obligation of circumcision. 12 But in the time of Abraham there were but few circumcised upon the earth, 13 because that idolatry was multiplied upon the earth.
14 Whereupon god told to Abraham the fact concerning circumcision, 15 and made this covenant, saying: “ the soul that shall not have his flesh circumcised, I will scatter him from among my people for ever.
16 The disciples trembled with fear at these words of Jesus, for with vehemence of spirit he spake. 17 Then said Jesus: ‘leave fear to him that hath not circumcised his foreskin, for he is deprived of paradise. 18 And having said this, Jesus
عصى جسده الروح ( [1] ) 4 فأقسم قائلا :" تالله لأقطعنك " 5 فكسر شظية من صخر وأمسك جسده ( [2] ) ليقطعه بحد الشظية 6 فوبخه الملاك جبريل على ذلك 7 فأجاب :لقد أقسمت بالله (ا) أن أقطعه فلا أكون حانثا 8 حينئذ أراه الملاك زائدة جسمه فقطعها 9 فكما أن جسد كل إنسان من جسد آدم وجب عليه أن يراعي كل عهد أقسم آدم ليقومن به 10 وحافظ آدم على فعل ذلك في أولاده 11 فتسلسلت سنة الختان من جيل إلى جيل 12 إلا أنه لم يكن في زمن إبراهيم سوى النزر القليل من المختونين على الأرض 13 لأن عبادة الأوثان تكاثرت على الأرض 14 وعليه فقد أخبر الله إبراهيم بحقيقة الختان 15 وأثبت هذا العهد قائلا "النفس ([3] )التي لاتختن جسدها إياها أبدد من بين شعبي إلى الأبد " 16 فارتجف التلاميذ خوفا من كلمات يسوع لأنه تكلم باحتدام الروح 17 ثم قال يسوع : دعوا الخوف للذي لم يقطع غرلته لأنه محروم من الفردوس ([4]) 18 وإذ قال هذا تكلم يسوع
