wounds, and was fain to have those crumbs that fell from the glutton’s table. 6 But no one gave them to him; nay, all mocked him. 7 Only the dogs had pity on him for they licked his wounds. 8 It came to pass that the poor man died, and the angels carried him to the arms of Abraham our father. 9 The rich man also died, and the devils carried him to the arms of Satan; whereupon undergoing the greatest torment, 10 he lifted up his eyes and from afar saw Lazarus in the arms of Abraham. 11 Then cried the rich man: ’O father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarous, who upon his fingers may bring me a drop of water to cool my tongue, which is tormented in this flame.”
12 Abraham answered: ‘Son, remember that thou receivedst thy good in the other life and Lazarus his evil; 13 wherefore now thou shalt be in torment, and Lazarus in consolation.”
14 The rich man cried out again, saying : “O father Abraham in my house there are three brethren of mine. 15 Therefore send Lazarus to announce to them how much I am suffering, in order that they may repent and not come hither.”
16 Abraham answered: “They
قروحا ويشتهي أن يشبع من الفتات الساقط من مائدة النهم 6 ولكن لم يعطه أحد إياه بل سخر به الجميع 7 ولم يتحنن عليه إلا الكلاب لأنها كانت تلحس قروحه 8 وحدث أن مات الفقير واحتملته الملائكة إلى ذراعي إبراهيم أبينا 9 ومات الغني أيضا واحتملته الشياطين إلى ذراعي إبليس حيث عانى أشد العذاب ( [1] ) 10 فرفع عينيه ورأى لعازر من بعيد على ذراعي إبراهيم 11 فصرخ حينئذ الغني :" يا أبتاه إبراهيم ارحمني وابعث لعازر ليحمل لي على طرف بنانه قطرة ماء تبرد لساني الذي يعذب في هذا اللهيب "( [2] ) 12 فأجاب إبراهيم :" يا بني اذكر أنك استوفيت طيباتك في حياتك ولعازر البلايا 13 لذلك أنت في الشقاء وهو في العزاء "( [3] ) 14 فصرخ الغني أيضا :" يا أبتاه إبراهيم إن لي في بيت أبي ثلاثة اخوة 15 فأرسل إذا لعازر ليخبرهم بما أعانيه لكي يتوبوا و لا يأتوا إلى هنا " 16 فأجاب إبراهيم :" عندهم
