have Moses and the prophet, let them hear them.”
17 The rich man answered: “Nay, father Abraham; but if one dead shall arise they will believe.”
18 Abraham answered: “Who so believeth not Moses and the prophets will not believe even the dead if they should arise[1].”
19 See then whether the poor are blessed, said Jesus’ who have patience, and only desire that which is necessary, hating the flesh.
20 O wretched they, who bear others to the burial, to give their flesh for food of worms, and do not learn the truth. 21 So far from it that they live here like immortals, 22 for they build great houses and purchase great revenues and live in pride.’
[25][2]How one ought to despise the flesh, and how one ought to live in the world.
1 Then said he who writeth: ‘O master, true are thy words, and therefore have we forsaken all to follow Thee 2. Tell us, then how we ought to hate our flesh; 3 for to kill oneself is not lawful, and living we needs must give it its livelihood.’
4 Jesus answered: ‘keep thy flesh like a horse, and thou shalt live securely. 5 For unto a horse food is given by measure, and labour without mesure, 6 and the bridle is put on him that he may walk at thy will,

موسى والأنبياء فليسمعوا منهم " 17 أجاب الغني : " كلا يا أبتاه إبراهيم بل إذا قام واحد من الأموات يصدقون " 18 فأجاب إبراهيم :" إن من لا يصدق موسى والأنبياء لا يصدق الأموات ولو قاموا " (ا) ( [1] ) 19 وقال يسوع :" انظروا أليس الفقراء الصابرون مباركين الذين يشتهون ما هو ضروري فقط كارهين الجسد 20 ما أشقى الذين يحملون الآخرين للدفن ليعطوا أجسادهم طعاما للدود ولا يتعلمون الحق 21 بل هم بعيدون عن ذلك بعدا عظيما حتى أنهم يعيشون هنا كأنهم خالدون 22 لأنهم يبنون بيوتا كبيرة ويشترون أملاكا كثيرة ويعيشون في الكبرياء.
الفصل الخامس والعشرون (ب)
كيف يجب على الإنسان أن يحتقر الجسد ويعيش في العالم
1 حينئذ قال الكاتب : يا معلم إن كلامك لحق ولذلك تركنا كل شئ لنتبعك ( [2] ) 2 فقل لنا إذا كيف يجب علينا أن نبغض جسدنا 3 الانتحار غير جائز ولما كنا أحياء وجب علينا أن نقيته 4 أجاب يسوع : احفظ جسدك كفرس تعش في أمن 5 لأن القوت يعطى للفرس بالمكيال والشغل بلا قياس 6 ويوضع اللجام في فيه ليسير بحسب إرادتك
