7 he is tied up that he may not annoy any one, 8 he is kept in a poor place, and beaten when he is not obedient: 9 so do thou, then, O Barnabas, and thou shalt live always with God.’
10 And be not offended at my words, for David the prophet did the same thing, as he confesseth, saying : “I am as an horse before thee: and am always by thee.”
11 Now tell me, whether is poorer he who is content with little, or he who desireth much? 12 Verily I say unto you, that if the world had but a sound mind no one would amass anything for himself, 13 but all would be in common. 14 But in this is known its madness, that the more it amasseth the more it desireth. 15 And as much as it amasseth, for the fleshly repose of others doth it amass the same. 16 Therefore let one single robe suffice for you, 17 cast away your purse, 18 carry no wallet, no sandals on your feet; 19 and do not think, saying : “What shall happen to us? 20 “ but have thought to do the will of God, 21 and he will provide your need, insomuch that nothing shall be lacking unto you.
7 ويربط لكي لا يزعج أحدا 8 ويحبس في مكان حقير ويضرب إذا عصى 9 فهكذا افعل إذا أنت يا برنابا تعش دوما مع الله 10 ولا يغيظنك كلامي لأن داود النبي فعل هذا الشئ نفسه كما يعترف قائلا :" إني كفرس عندك وإني دائما معك "( [1] ) 11 ألا قل لي أيهما أفقر ؟ الذي يقنع بالقليل أم الذي يشتهي الكثير ؟ 12 الحق أقول لكم لو كان للعالم عقل سليم لم يجمع أحدا شيئا لنفسه 13 بل كان كل شئ شركة 14 ولكن بهذا يعلم جنونه إنه كلما جمع زاد رغبة ( [2] ) 15 وأن ما يجمعه فإنما يجمعه لراحة الآخرين الجسدية 16 فليكفكم ([3] ) إذا ثوب واحد 17 ارموا كيسكم 18 لا تحملوا مزودا ولا حذاء في أرجلكم 19 ولا تفكروا قائلين "ماذا يحدث لنا ؟" 20 بل فكروا أن تفعلوا إرادة الله 21 وهو يقدم لكم حاجتكم حتى لا تكونوا في حاجة إلى شئ
