of pieces, fell in pieces. 4 thereupon, Abraham going forth from the temple was seen by certain men, who suspected him of having gone to thieve something from the temple. So they laid hold on him, 5 and having arrived at the temple, when they saw their gods so broken in pieces, they cried out with lamentation: “come quickly, O men, and let us slay him who hath slain our gods! 6 There ran together there about ten thousand men, with the priests, and questioned Abraham of the reason why he had destroyed their gods.
7 Abraham answered: “Ye are foolish! 8 Shall then a man slay God? 9 It is the great God that hath slain them. 10 See you not that axe which he hath near his feet? 11 Certain it is that he desireth no fellows.”
12 Then arrived there the father of Abraham, who, mindful of the many discourses of Abraham against their gods, 13 and recognizing the axe wherewith Abraham had broken in pieces the idols, 14 cried out: “It hath been this traitor of son of mine, who hath slain our gods! For this axe is mine.” 15 And he recounted to them all that had passed between him and his son.
من أجزاء 4 ولما كان إبراهيم خارجا من الهيكل رآه جماعة من الناس فظنوا أنه دخل ليسرق شيئا من الهيكل فأمسكوه 5 ولما بلغوا به الهيكل ورأوا آلهتهم محطمة قطعا صرخوا منتحبين :" اسرعوا يا قوم ولنقتل الذي قتل آلهتنا " 6 فهرع إلى هتاك نحو عشرة آلاف رجل مع الكهنة وسألوا إبراهيم عن السبب الذي لأجله حطم آلهتهم 7 أجاب إبراهيم :" إنكم لأغبياء 8 أيقتل الإنسان الله ( [1] ) ؟ 9 إن الذي قتلها إنما هو الإله الكبير 10 ألا ترون الفأس التي له عند قدميه 11 إنه لا يبتغي أندادا " 12 فوصل حينئذ أبو إبراهيم الذي ذكر أحاديث إبراهيم في آلهتهم 13 وعرف الفأس التي حطم بها إبراهيم الأصنام 14 فصرخ :" إنما قتل آلهتنا ابني الخائن هذا لأن هذه الفأس فأسي 15 وقص عليهم كل ما جرى بينه وبين ابنه
