saying: “Do thou in turn likewise to thyself, O Abraham” 21 when Abraham had washed himself, the angel said “Go up that mountain, for God wileth to speak to thee there.”
22 He ascended the mountain as the angel said to Abraham, 23 and having sat down upon his knees he said to himself: “when will the God of the angels speak to me?
24 He heard himself called with a gentle voice “Abraham”
25 Abraham answered him: “Who calleth me?”
26 The voice answered: “I am thy god[1] O Abraham”
27 Abraham filled with fear, bent his face to earth, saying :” how shall thy servant hearken unto thee, who is dust and ashes!”
28 Then said God: “Fear not, but rise up for I have chosen thee for my servant, and I will to bless thee and make thee increase into a great people. 29 Therefore go thou forth from the house of thy father and of thy kindred, and come to dwell in the land which I will give to thee and thy seed.”
30 Abraham answered: “All will I do, Lord; but guard me that none other god may do me hurt.”
31 Then spake God saying: “I am god alone, 32 and there is none other God but me[2].33 I strike down, and make whole; 34 I slay, and give life; 35 I lead down to hell, and I bring out thereof, 36 and none is able to deliver himself out of my hands.” 37 Then God gave him the covenant of circumcision; and so our father Abraham knew God.’
قائلا :" افعل كذلك بنفسك يا إبراهيم " 21 فلما اغتسل إبراهيم قال الملاك :" ارتق ذلك الجبل لأن الله يريد أن يكلمك هناك " 22 فارتقى إبراهيم الجبل كما قال له الملاك 23 ولما جثا على ركبتيه قال لنفسه " متى يا ترى يكلمني إله الملائكة ؟" 24 فسمع صوتا لطيفا يناديه :" يا إبراهيم " 25 فأجابه إبراهيم :" من يناديني؟ " 26 فأجاب الصوت :" أنا إلهك (ا) يا إبراهيم " 27 أما إبراهيم فارتاع وعفر بوجهه الأرض قائلا : كيف يصغي عبدك إليك وهو تراب ورماد( [1] )؟ " 28 حينئذ قال الله " لا تخف بل انهض لأني قد اصطفيتك عبدا لي وإني أريد أن أباركك وأجعلك شعبا عظيما ( [2] ) 29 فاخرج إذا من بيت أبيك وأهلك وتعالى اسكن في الأرض التي أعطيكها أنت ونسلك ( [3] ) 30 فأجاب إبراهيم :" إني لفاعل كل ذلك يا رب ولكن احرسني لكي لا يضرني إله آخر " 31 فتكلم الله قائلا " أنا الله أحد 32 ولا إله غيري (ب) 33 أضرب وأشفي 34 أميت وأحيي 35 أنزل إلى الجحيم وأخرج منه 36 ولا يقدر أحد أن ينقذ نفسه من يدي ( [4] ) 37 ثم أعطاه الله عهد الختان وهكذا عرف الله أبونا إبراهيم
