the fruit cursed be the earth in thy works; 13 it shall bring forth for thee brambles and thorns, 14 and in the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread( [1] ), 15 and remember that thou art earth, and to earth shalt thou return.”

16 And he spake to Eve saying:” And thou who didst hearken to Satan, 17 and gavest the food to thy husband, shalt abide under the dominion of man, who shall keep thee as a slave, 18 and thou shalt bear children with travail ( [2] ).”

19 And having called the serpent, God called the angel Michael ( [3] ), him who holdeth the sword of God (a), [and] said: “First drive forth from paradise this wicked serpent, 20 and when outside cut off his legs: 21 for if he shall wish to walk, he must trail his body upon the earth.” 22 Afterwards God called Satan (b) , who came laughing, and he said to him: “because thou, reprobate, hast deceived these and hast made them to become unclean, I will that every uncleanness of them and of all their children, whereof they shall be truly penitent and shall serve me, in going forth from their body shall enter through thy mouth, and so shalt thou be satiated with uncleannesses ( [4] ).”

23 Satan then gave a horrible roar, and said: “Since thou willest to make me ever worse, I yet will make me that which I shall be able!( [5] )”

الثمر 13 ولتنبت لك حسكا وشوكا 14 ولتأكل الخبز بعرق وجهك ( [6] ) 15 واذكر أنك تراب وإلى التراب تعود " 16 وكلم حواء قائلا :" وأنت التي أصغيت للشيطان 17 وأعطيت زوجك الطعام تلبثين تحت تسلط الرجل الذي يعاملك كأمة 18 وتحملين الأولاد بالألم ( [7] ) 19 ولما دعا الحية دعا الملاك ميخائيل ( [8] ) الذي يحمل سيف الله (ا) وقال اطرد أولا من الجنة هذه الحية الخبيثة 20 ومتى صارت خارجا فاقطع قوائمها 21 فإذا أرادت أن تمشي يجب أن تزحف " 22 ثم نادى الله بعد ذلك الشيطان (ب) فأتى ضاحكا فقال له :" لأنك أيها الرجيم خدعت هذين وصيّرتهما نجسين أريد أن تدخل في فمك كل نجاسة فيهما وفي كل أولادهما متى تابوا عنها وعبدوني حقا فخرجت منهم فتصير مكتظا بالنجاسة ([9] ) 23 فجأر الشيطان حينئذ جأرا مخوفا وقال :" لما كنت تريد أن تصيّرني أردأ مما أنا عليه فإني سأجعل نفسي كما أقدر أن أكون ( [10] )" 24 حينئذ قال الله :" انصرف أيها اللعين من حضرتي "

[4] What is meant by this is that the Satan will bear the sins of who he deceived them , but this will not save the sinners from bearing there own sins , because Satan had no influence upon them , see Al-A’raf 7: 38, Ibrahim 14: 22, Al-Hijr 15:42, An-Nahl 16:99, Al-Isra’ 17: 65, Saba’ 34: 21, As-Saffat 37: 30.

[9] المقصود أن الشيطان سيعاقب على ذنوب البشر الذين أضلهم ، ولكن هذا لا ينفي مسئولية البشر عن ذنوبهم وذلك كما يتبين من الأعراف : 38 ، لأنه ليس للشيطان سلطان على البشر كما هو واضح من ( إبراهيم :22 ، الحجر :42 ، النحل : 99 ، الإسراء : 65 ، سبأ :21 ، الصافات : 30 ).
