they sent the Levites and some of the scribes to question him, saying: ‘who art thou?’

6 They said: ‘art thou Elijah or Jeremiah, or any of the ancient prophets ( [2]?’

8 Then said they: ‘who art thou? 9 Say, in order that we may give testimony to those who sent us.’

10 Then said Jesus: ‘I am a voice that crieth through all Judaea, 11 and crieth:’ ( [3] ) prepare ye the way for the messenger of the Lord (a) (b),’ even as it is written in Esaias.

12 They said :’if thou be not the Messiah nor Elijah, or any prophet wherefore dost thou preach new doctrine, and make thyself of more account than the Messiah?

13 Jesus answered ( [4] ):’ The miracles which God worketh by my hands show that I speak that which God willeth; 14 nor indeed do I make myself to be accounted as him of whom ye speak. 15 For I am not worthy ( [5] )to unloose the ties of the hosen or the latchets of the shoes of the messenger of God (b) whom ye call :”Messiah”, who was made before me, and shall come after me, and shall bring the words of truth, so that his faith shall have no end (c) ( [6] ).’

16 The Levites and scribes departed in confusion, and recounted all to the chiefs of the priests, who said: ‘he hath

5 فاعترف يسوع وقال : " الحق أني لست مسيا ( [7] ) 6 فقالوا :" أ أنت إيليا أو أرميا أو أحد الأنبياء القدامى ( [8] )؟ 7 أجاب يسوع :" كلا" 8 حينئذ قالوا :" من أنت؟ 9 قل لنشهد للذين أرسلونا 10 فقال حينئذ يسوع :" أنا صوت صارخ في اليهودية كلها 11 يصرخ أعدوا طريق رسول الرب (ا) (ب) كما هو مكتوب في إشعيا ( [9] ) 12 قالوا إذا لم تكن المسيح ولا إيليا أو نبيا ما فلماذا تبشر بتعليم جديد وتجعل نفسك أعظم شأنا من مسيا؟ 13 أجاب ( [10] ) يسوع :" إن الآيات التي يفعلها الله على يدي تظهر أني أتكلم بما يريد الله 14 ولست أحسب نفسي نظير الذي تقولون عنه 15 لأني لست ( [11] ) أهلا أن أحل رباطات جرموق أو سيور حذاء رسول الله (ب) الذي تسمونه مسيا الذي خلق قبلي وسيأتي بعدي وسيأتي بكلام الحق ولا يكون لدينه نهاية (ج) ( [12] )" 16 فانصرف اللاويون والكتبة بالخيبة وقصوا كل شئ على رؤساء الكهنة الذين قالوا :إن

ا سئالو بنى ( سأل بنو) اسرائل بعيسى من انت قال عيسى انا صوة ( صوت ) انادى ان يحطروا ( يحضّروا) طريق رسول الله لانه سيجئ منه

ج قال عيسى لا ينبغي لي ان يخدم ( أخدم ) نعلين رسول الله لانه خلق من قبلي وسيجئ من بعدي ودينه باق ابدا منه
