are the people of Judah and Jerusalem ( [1] )? 11 Woe to you for God is worth(a) with you 12 having ripped open so many prophets of God ( [2]); so that at the time of Ahab there was not found one to bury the holy ones of God.!’

13 And when he had said this the chief priests wished to seize him, but they feared the common people ( [3] ), which magnified him.

14 Then Jesus seeing a woman ( [4] ) who from her birth had remained with her head bent toward the ground, 15 said: ‘Raise thy head, O woman, in the name of our God (b), in order that these may know that I speak truth, and that he willeth that I announce it.’

17 The chief of the priests cried out, saying this man is not sent of God, 18 seeing he keepeth not the sabbath; for today he hath healed an infirm person.( [5] )’

19 Jesus answered: Now tell me, is it not lawful to speak on the sabbath day, and to make prayer for the salvation of others? 20 And who is there among you who, if on the sabbath his ass or his ox fell into the ditch, ( [6] ) would not pull him out on the sabbath? 21 Assuredly none. 22 And shall I then have broken the sabbath day by having given health to a daughter of Israel? 23 Of a surety, here is known thy hypocrisy! 24 Oh how many are there to-day that fear the smiting of a straw in another’s eye ( [7] ), while a beam is ready to cut off their own head!

شعب يهوذا وأورشليم ( [8] ) ؟ 11 ويل لكم لأن الله غاضب (ا) عليكم 12 لأنكم بقرتم كثيرين من أنبياء ([9] ) الله حتى أنه لم يوجد في زمن أخاب واحد يدفن قديسي الله 13 ولما قال هذا أراد رؤساء الكهنة أن يمسكوه ولكنهم خافوا العامة ( [10] ) الذين عظموه 14 ثم رأى يسوع امرأة ( [11] ) كان رأسها منحنيا نحو الأرض منذ ولادتها 15 فقال :" ارفعي رأسك أيتها المرأة باسم إلهنا (ب) ليعرف هؤلاء أني أقول الحق وأنه يريد أن يذيعه " 16 فاستقامت حينئذ المرأة صحيحة معظمة لله 17 فصرخ رؤساء الكهنة قائلين " ليس هذا الإنسان مرسلا من الله 18 لأنه لا يحفظ السبت إذ قد أبرأ اليوم مريضا ( [12] )" 19 أجاب يسوع :" ألا فقولوا لي ألا يحل التكلم في يوم السبت وتقديم الصلاة لخلاص الآخرين؟ 20 ومن منكم إذا سقط حماره يوم السبت في حفرة لا ينتاشه ( [13] ) يوم السبت ؟ 21 لا أحد مطلقا 22 فهل أكون قد كسرت يوم السبت بإبراء ابنه من بني إسرائيل ؟ 23 حقا إنه قد علم هنا رياؤكم 24 كم من حاضر هنا ممن يحذرون أن يصيب عين غيرهم قذى ( [14] ) والجذع يوشك أن يشج رؤوسهم
