by reason of the factions of peoples ( [1] ).5 Wherefore the cities shall be annihilated, and the country shall become desert. 6 Such pestilences shall come that none shall be found to bear the dead to burial, so that they shall be left as food for beasts. 7 To those who remain upon the earth God shall send such scarcity that bread shall be valued above gold ( [2] ) , 8 and they shall eat all manner of unclean things. 9 O miserable age, in which scarce any one shall be heard to say: “I have sinned, have mercy on me O God (a)” ; but with horrible voices they shall blaspheme him who is glorious and blessed for ever ( [3] ). 11 After this as that day draweth nigh, for fifteen days, shall come every day a horrible sign over the inhabitants of the earth ( [4] ). 12 The first day the sun shall run its course in heaven without light ( [5] ), 13 but black as the dye of cloth; 14 and it shall give groans, as a father who groaneth for a son nigh to death. 15 The second day the moon shall be turned into blood ( [6] ) , 16 and blood shall come upon the earth like dew. 17 The third day the stars shall be seen to fight among themselves like an army ( [7] ) of enemies. 18 The fourth day the stones and rocks shall dash against

بسبب أحزاب الشعوب ( [8] ) 5 ولذلك تنقرض المدن وتصير البلاد قفرا 6 وتقع أوبئة فتاكة حتى لا يعود يوجد من يحمل الموتى للمقابر بل تترك طعاما للحيوانات 7 وسيرسل الله مجاعة على الذين يبقون على الأرض فيصير الخبز أعظم قيمة من الذهب ( [9] ) 8 فيأكلون كل أنواع الأشياء النجسة 9 يا لشقاء هذا الجيل الذي لا يكاد يسمع فيه أحد يقول :[ أخطأت فارحمني يا الله (ا) ] 10 يجدفون بأصوات مخوفة على المجيد المبارك إلى الأبد ( [10] ) 11 وبعد هذا متى أخذ ذلك اليوم في الاقتراب تأتي كل يوم علامة مخوفة على سكان الأرض مدة خمسة عشر يوما ( [11] ) 12 ففي اليوم الأول تسير الشمس في مدارها في السماء بدون نور ( [12] ) 13 بل تكون سوداء كصبغ الثوب 14 وستئن كما يئن أب على ابن مشرف على الموت 15 وفي اليوم الثاني يتجول القمر إلى دم ( [13] ) 16 وسيأتي دم على الأرض كالندى 17 وفي اليوم الثالث تشاهد النجوم ( [14] ) آخذة في الاقتتال كجيش من الأعداء 18 وفي اليوم الرابع تتصادم الحجارة والصخور
