nourished slaves and exalted them, but they have despised me.”
17 The king is our God, who found Israel in this world full of miseries, 18 and gave him therefore to his servants Joseph, Moses and Aaron, who tended him. 19 And our God conceived such love for him that for the sake of the people of Israel he smote Egypt, drowned Pharaoh, and discomfited an hundred and twenty ( [1] ) kings of the Cannanites and Madianites; 20 he gave him his laws, making him heir of all that [land] wherein our people dwelleth.
21 ‘But how doth Israel bear himself?’22 How many prophets hath he slain; 23 how many prophecies hath he contaminated; 24 how hath he vilolated the law of God: 25 how many for that cause have departed from God and gone to serve idols ( [2], through your offence, O priests! 26 And how do ye dishonour God with your manner of life! And now ye ask me: ‘what will God give us in paradise?’ 27 Ye ought to have asked me: what will be the punishment that God will give you in hell; and then what ye ought to do for true penitence in order that God may have mercy on you: 28 for this I can tell you, and to this end I am sent to you.’

عبيدا ورفعت شأنهم أما هم فامتهنوني " 17 إن الملك لهو إلهنا الذي وجد إسرائيل في هذا العالم مفعما شقاء 18 فأعطاه لعبيده يوسف وموسى وهارون الذين اعتنوا به 19 وأحبه إلهنا حبا شديدا حتى أنه لأجل شعب إسرائيل ضرب مصر وأغرق فرعون وهزم مئة وعشرين ملكا( [3] )من الكنعانيين والمدينيين 20 وأعطاه شرائعه جاعلا إياه وارثا لكل تلك البلاد التي يقيم فيها شعبنا 21 ولكن كيف تصرف إسرائيل ؟ 22 كم قتل من الأنبياء ؟ 23 كم نجس نبوة 24 كيف عصى شريعة الله 25 كم وكم تحول أناس عن الله لذلك السبب وذهبوا ليعبدوا الأوثان ()[4]) بذنبكم أيها الكهنة 26 فلكم تمتهنون الله بسلوككم والآن تسألونني : ماذا يعطينا الله في الجنة ؟27 فكان يجب أن تسألوني : أي قصاص يعطيكم الله إياه في الجحيم وماذا عليكم فعله لأجل التوبة الصادقة ليرحمكم الله ؟ 28 فهذا ما أقوله لكم ولهذه الغاية أرسلت إليكم .
