23 The towers of the city of our father shall greet one another for joy( [1] ); 24 and so when idolatry shall be seen to fall to the ground and confess me a man like other men, verily I say unto you the messenger of God ( a)shall be come.’

1 ‘Verily I say unto you, that if Satan shall try whether ye be friends of God _ because no one assaileth his own cities, _ if Satan should have his will over you he would suffer you to glide at your own pleasure; 2 but because he knoweth that ye be enemies to him he will do every violence to make you perish. 3 But fear not ye, for he will be against you as a dog that is chained, because God hath heard my prayer.’

4 John answered: ‘O master not only for us but for them that shall believe the gospel( [2] ), tell us how the ancient tempter ( [3] )layeth wait for man.’

5 Jesus answered: ‘In four ways tempteth that wicked one. 6 The first is when he tempteth by himself, with thoughts. 7 The second is when he tempteth with words and deeds

23 وستحيي طربا أبراج مدينة آبائنا بعضها بعضا ( [4] )24 فمتى شوهد سقوط عبادة الأصنام إلى الأرض وأعترف بأني بشر كسائر البشر فالحق أقول لكم أن نبي الله (ا) حينئذ يأتي.

1 الحق أقول لكم أنه إذا حاول الشيطان أن يعرف هل أنتم أخلاء الله وتمكن من بلوغ مأربه منكم فانه يسمح لكم أن تسيروا بحسب أهوائكم إذ لا يهاجم أحد مدنه 2( [5] ) ولكن لما كان يعلم أنكم أعداؤه فسيستعمل كل عنف ليهلككم 3 ولكن لا تخافوا فانه سيقاومكم ككلب مربوط لأن الله قد سمع صلاتي 4 أجاب يوحنا : يا معلم أخبرنا كيف يقف المجرب القديم ( [6] ) بالمرصاد للإنسان ليس لأجلنا نحن فقط بل لأجل الذين سيؤمنون بالإنجيل ( [7] ) أيضا 5 أجاب يسوع : أن ذلك الشرير يجرب بأربع طرق 6 الأولى عندما يجرب هو نفسه بالأفكار 7 الثانية عندما يجرب بالكلام والأعمال
