thus it is written by the prophet: ( [1] )‘And thou, Bethlehem, art not little among the princes of Judah: for out of thee shall come forth a leader, who shall lead my people Israel.’
6 Herod accordingly called together the magi and asked them concerning their coming: 7 who answered that they had seen a star in the east, which had guided them thither 8, wherefore they wished with gifts to worship this new King manifested by his star.
9 Then said Herod: ‘Go to Bethlehem and search out with all diligence concerning the child; 10 and when ye have found him, come and tell it to me, because I also would fain come and worship him.’ 11 And this he spake deceitfully.
[7] The visitation of Jesus by magi, and their return to their own country, with warning of Jesus given to them in a dream.
1 The magi therefore departed ( [2] )out of Jerusalem, 2 and Lo, the star which appeared to them in the east went before them. 3 Seeing the star the magi were filled with gladness. 4 And so having come to Bethlehem, outside the city, they saw
مكتوب في النبي ( [3] )هكذا " وأنت يا بيت لحم لست صغيرة بين رؤساء يهوذا لأنه سيخرج منك مدبر يرعى شعبي إسرائيل " 6 فاستحضر هيرودس إذ ذاك المجوس وسألهم عن مجيئهم 7 فأجابوا : أنهم رأوا نجما في المشرق هداهم إلى هناك 8 فلذلك أحبوا أن يقدموا هدايا ويسجدوا لهذا الملك الجديد الذي تبدى لهم نجمه 9 فقال عندئذ هيرودس : اذهبوا إلى بيت لحم وابحثوا بتدقيق عن الصبي 10 ومتى وجدتموه تعالوا وأخبروني لأني أنا أيضا أريد أن أسجد له 11 وهو إنما قال هذا مكرا.
الفصل السابع
زيارة المجوس ليسوع وعودتهم إلى وطنهم
عملا بإنذار يسوع إياهم في حلم
1 وانصرف المجوس ( [4] )من أورشليم 2 وإذا بالنجم الذي ظهر لهم في المشرق يتقدمهم 3 فلما رأوا النجم امتلأوا سرورا 4 ولما بلغوا بيت لحم وهم خارج المدينة وجدوا
