“I confess thee our god alone (a) ( [1] ), that hast not had beginning, nor shalt ever have end (b) ( [2] ); 28 for by thy mercy gavest thou to all things their beginning, and by thy justice thou shalt give to all an end ( [3] ); 29 that hast no likeness among men( [4] ), 30 because in thine infinite goodness thou art not subject to motion nor to any accident. 31 Have mercy on us, for thou hast created us, and we are the works of thy hand (c).”’

1 Having made the prayer, Jesus said: ‘Let us give thanks to God because he hath given (e) to us this night great mercy; 2 for that he hath made to come back the time that needs must pass in this night, in that we have made prayer in union with the messenger of God (f). 3 and I have heard his voice ( [5] ).’

4 The disciples rejoiced greatly at hearing this and said: ‘Master teach us some

اعترف بك إلهنا الأحد (ا) ( [6] ) الذي ليس لك من بداية ولا يكون لك من نهاية ( ب) ( [7] ) 28 لأنك برحمتك أعطيت كل الأشياء بدايتها وستعطي بعدلك الكل نهاية ( [8] ) 29 لا شبه لك بين البشر ( [9] ) 30 لأنك بجودك غير المتناهي لست عرضة للحركة ولا لعارض 31 ارحمنا لأنك خلقتنا ونحن عمل يدك (ج).

1 ولما صلى يسوع قال : لنشكر الله لأنه وهبنا (هـ) هذه الليلة رحمة عظيمة 2 لأنه أعاد الزمن الذي يلزم أن يمر في هذه الليلة إذ قد صلينا بالاتحاد مع رسول (و) الله 3 وقد سمعت صوته ( [10] )4 فلما سمع التلاميذ هذه تهللوا كثيرا وقالوا : يا معلم علمنا شيئا من

[10] هناك حديث نبوي أن الأنبياء جميعا صلوا معه، وإن كان ذلك في ليلة الإسراء والمعراج ( الذهاب إلى القدس ليلا ثم الصعود إلى السماوات والعودة في جزء من الساعة ) وليس في ليلة عيد الأضحى.
