5 The magi therefore went thither, 6 and entering the dwelling found the child with his mother, 7 and bending down they did obeisance to him.( [1] ) 8 And the magi presented unto him spices, with silver and gold, 9 recounting to the virgin all that they had seen.

10 Whereupon, while sleeping, they were warned by the child ( [2] ) not to go to Herode : 11 so departing by another way they returned to their own home announcing all that they had seen in Judaea.

1 Herod seeing that the magi did not return, believed himself mocked ( [3] ) of them; 2whereupon he determined to put to death the child that was born. 3 But behold while Joseph ( [4] )was sleeping there appeared to him the angel of the Lord ,saying : 4 ’Arise up quickly, and take the child with his mother and go into Egypt, for Herod willeth to slay him.’ 5 Joseph arose with great fear, and took Mary with the child and they went into Egypt, 6 and there they abode until the death of Herod: who believing himself derided^{(

[5]}of the magi, 7 sent his soldiers to slay all the new-born children

النجم واقفا فوق النزل حيث ولد يسوع 5 فذهب المجوس إلى هناك 6 ولما دخلوا المنزل وجدوا الطفل مع أمه 7 فانحنوا وسجدوا له ( [6] ) 8 وقدم له المجوس طيوبا مع فضة وذهب 9 وقصوا على العذراء كل ما رأوا 10 وبينما كانوا نياما حذرهم الطفل ( [7] ) من الذهاب إلى هيرودس 11 فانصرفوا في طريق أخرى وعادوا إلى وطنهم وأخبروا بما رأوا في اليهودية.

فلما رأى هيرودس أن المجوس لم يعودوا إليه ظن أنهم سخروا منه ( [8] ) 2 فعقد النية على قتل الطفل الذي ولد 3 ولكن بينما ( [9] ) كان يوسف نائما ظهر له ملاك الرب قائلا 4 :انهض عاجلا وخذ الطفل وأمه واذهب إلى مصر لأن هيرودس يريد أن يقتله 5 فنهض يوسف بخوف عظيم وأخذ مريم والطفل وذهبوا إلى مصر 6 ولبثوا هناك حتى موت هيرودس الذي حسب أن المجوس قد سخروا منه ( [10] ) 7 فأرسل جنوده ليقتلوا كل الأطفال المولودين حديثا
