13 Jesus answered: ‘He ought to do as the mariner doth with the ship who saileth it so long as he perceiveth it to be profitable, but when he seeth it to be a loss forsaketh it. 14 So shalt thou do with thy friend that is worse than thou:15 in those things wherein he is an offence to thee, leave him if thou wouldst not be left of the mercy of God(a).’

1 Woe unto the world because of offences. It needs must be that the offence come, because all the world lieth in wickedness ( [1] ). 3 But yet woe to that man through whom the offence cometh. 4 It were better of the man if he should have a millstone about his neck and should be sunk in the depths of the sea than that he should offend his neighbour. 5 If thine eye be an offence to thee, pluck it out; for it is better that thou go with one eye only into paradise than with both of them into hell. 6 If

13 أجاب يسوع : يجب عليه أن يفعل ما يفعله النوتي بالمركب الذي يسيره ما رأى منه نفعا ولكن متى وجد فيه خسارة تركه 14 هكذا يجب أن تفعل بصديق شر منك 15 فاتركه في الأشياء التي يكون فيها عثرة لك إذا كنت لا تود أن تتركك رحمة الله (ا).
الفصل السابع والثمانون (ب)
1 ويل للعالم من العثرات 2 لا بد أن تأتي العثرات لأن العالم يقيم في الإثم ( [2] )3 ولكن ويل لهذا الإنسان الذي به تأتي العثرة 4 خير للإنسان أن يعلق في عنقه حجر الرحى ويغرق في لجة البحر من أن يعثر جاره 5 إذا كانت عينك عثرة لك فاقلعها لأنه خير لك أن تدخل الجنة أعور من أن تدخل الجحيم ولك عينان 6 إن
