have many accomplished, and are damned eternally. 13 But he said: “ ( [1] ) In that hour that the sinner shall bewail his sins, I for my part will not remember any more his iniquities.” Do ye understand?’ Said Jesus.
14 The disciples answered: ‘Part we understand, and part not.’
15 Said Jesus: ‘Which is the part ye understand not?’
16 They answered: ‘That many who have made prayer with fastings are damned.’
17 Then said Jesus: ‘Verily I say unto you, that the hypocrites and the Gentiles make more prayers, more alms, and more fasts than do the friends of God. 18 But because they have not faith they are not able to repent for love of God, and so they are damned ( [2] ).’
19 Then said John: ‘Teach us, for love of God, of the faith.’
20 Jesus answered: ‘It is time that we say the prayer of the dawn’ 21 Whereupon they arose, and having washed themselves made prayer to our God (a), who is blessed for evermore.

به كثيرون وهم معلنون لعنة أبدية 13 ولكنه قال ( [3] )" في الساعة التي يندب الخاطئ خطاياه ( أنسى ) إثمه فلا أذكره بعد " ثم قال يسوع : أفهمتم ؟ 14 أجاب التلاميذ : فهمنا بعضا دون بعض 15 أجاب يسوع : ما هو الذي لم تفهموه ؟ 16 فأجابوا : كون كثيرين من الذين صلوا مع الصيام ملعونين 17 حينئذ قال يسوع : الحق أقول لكم أن المرائين والأمم يصلون ويتصدقون ويصومون أكثر من أخلاء الله 18 ولكن لما لم يكن لهم إيمان لم يتمكنوا من التوبة ولهذا كانوا ملعونين ( [4] ) 19 فقال حينئذ يوحنا : علمنا ما هو الإيمان حبا في الله 20 أجاب يسوع : قد حان لنا أن نصلي صلاة الفجر 21 فنهضوا واغتسلوا وصلا لإلهنا (ا) المبارك إلى الأبد .
